Hi locutusut. :wavey: First, welcome to the Ford Fusion Club!

The fuse box is up under the dash board. I find it easier to physically get down onto the floor and look up at the underside of the dash. Well, actually behind the dash up, on the left and forward towards the firewall.

While I am a Ford fan, I certainly think the fuse box could have been better located for easier access. :bash:

I can agree on the bad placement, but really its the only place that makes sense money wise and engineering wise, it allows for the least amount of wiring since its right by all the components switches and such.

As for its location, exactly what BBF said, you are looking for a solid black chunk of plastic and if I remember right it has a yellow caution sign on the front (but I could be mistaken) You should have to push one or two finger tabs to remove it, there will be no screws to open the case so if you think you need to unscrew something to get it open, that isn't the right part. Hope that helps

 

Ok, thanks guys for the info...I think I found it!

Next, question: how can I safely open it? It's really crammed in there so it's hard to tell where a latch is. Press indiscriminately on the side and top didn't seem to help.

There is a small tab on it, towards the bottom of it (floor side) the tab is as wide as your thumb....ya know what screw it, give me a half hour and I will grab a pic of it. :lol:

 

Crap...picture, forgot. I will get it before the end of tonight.

 

Its blurry and my marker wires are in the way (from my custom mod) but as you can see on the left side (bottom of the fuse image is pointing towards the floor) there is a tab/thingy that you push to release the cover, hold that in and tug a little and it will pop right off. :cheers:

 

I can move my fuse box for easier access. There is a removable panel it won't help much with access but you can try to see what you are doing. Now my fusebox as a whole if I push up it will unhook from the bracket. Then I can almost get it to the floor makes for slightly better time dealing with the fuses. Keep in mind Everytime I go to put it back it is a pain in the ass but I'm getting it down. I'll try to attach a few pics as well.
