I had the tail lights painted blood red candy apple.  It is bigtime transperant so you see right through it so all the interior pieces are still visible, but all look red.  They masked the reverse lights so everything except for that area is transperant red.

you know, it's just my opinion, but I'm not sure I like how they look on the car. I like ours stock though, and I think it's part of what makes our cars ours. To me, the red ones just look "normal" and make the rear look kind of like an Accord or something. Maybe not even in shape, but I think it takes something away. My 2 cents.

However, kudos to you for taking the chance and making your car "yours". As long as you like them, that's all that matters.

Good job on havinmg some balls to do something like that...

But for some reason .. something just doesnt look right... I just can't put my finger on it.

I'm with you. It's there, it's dagging me in the eye's, but I don't know what it is about it that I don't care for. I'm glad that someone went and did it -- but it's not for me.

Keep the mods coming!

I was thinking the same thing. Very nicely done, but something is just a bit peculiar about the taillights now. And I think I realized what it is after looking at the pics a half dozen times. I think it is the 3D effect caused by the chrome underneith the red tinting - the red doesn't appear uniform because of how the lights are built. Anyway, you certainly did a good job and I think it does look nice - but I like my stock fusion lights better ;)

It's definitely unique.
Good for you.
I was one of those people who hated our "DECO" lamps, now I cannot see myself changing them.
as for everyone trying to figure out what's different about it... I go with what I said originally back in early spring... the "DECO" lights grow on you.  Now, six months later,  looking at anything different just doesn't seem right.

anyways to each his/her own.

Nice job regardless!

PS what's in the driveway beside the Fusion? is it a Freestyle SEL?

I was thinking it looks kinda Volvo-ish. Wheels look Ford, though..hmm

LOOKS LIKE AN ACCORD TO ME. SORRY ABOUT ALL THE BAD VIBES THOUGH BUT GOOD WORK ON IT. THEY DON'T LOOK THAT BAD, WOULD PROBABLY LOOK ALOT NICER ON ANOTHER KIND OF CAR THOUGH. NOTHING WORNG WITH MAKING THE CAR YOUR OWN THOUGH. THEY PROBABLY LOOK BETTER IN PERSON.

I was just looking again at your photo trying to figure out the car beside your SEL, when I glanced again at your SEL, did you get rid of your chrome beltline? If so, why not complete the deal with getting rid of the rear chrome and replace it with a painted rear piece. Might look more like that black monochromatic one out there that was just posted.

LOOKS LIKE ITS IN THE AUDI FAMILY. I'M GLAD TO SEE SOMEBODY BEING DIFFERENT AND DOING THERE OWN THINGS. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD DON'T DO THINGS JUST BECAUSE SOMEBODY ELSE IS DO IT BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT. GOOD JOB.

I think it looks good. I like how you can still see the detail through the red. Mine is charcoal beige and I smoked my tail lights and side markers black, just think it flows better with a dark car. What was the mix on the paint used? Red and clear coat?

Nice

I like the look of the red taillights over the Fusion's OEM taillights. I would like the see a set of taillights that painted over part of the chrome "outline" of the OEMs as I think the problem I have with the OEMs is that the chrome area is too wide; a thinner strip would have looked better.

Photoshopped version...

Yeah, that is what I was thinking about. You are right, perhaps just a tad thicker chrome band in the 1/4" - 3/8" area. The thickness you have in the lower left area where the two bands meet looks about right.

Yeah, I'll have to agree with the concensus around here. My neighbor across the street has a dark blue '05 accord. Now, your fusion looks just like his accord. Although it does look different than any other fusion, I like the chrome better though. I do hope you like it though- that's all that matters.

Re: PHOTSHOPPED VERSION...

Here's one with a little thicker chrome...I'd guess this represents about a 1/2 inch band.   I'd like this look better than the stock.   The total red lense needs "something", especially with my SEL that has the chrome strip on the trunk.

Hmmm....you know I've always wondered what the "all red" look would look like since I'm really NOT a fan of the chrome on the taillights.

BUT - after actually SEEING it in all red, I think I like what I have!

The smoke idea is something else I've wanted to see.

But, ideally I think I'll just wait for the day when someone actually comes out with LED taillights.

I really like the "all red" look. The stock taillights just somehow look out of place to me with that clear plastic covering and smoked lenses look cheesy to me. Opinions are like noses, most everybody has a different one.

Making the tail lights all red is actually making the car plain, in my eyes. The chrome gives it that euro look, which makes it so attractive. Needs something like that to make up for that huge ass (trunk) that the Fusion has. I read a lot of customer reviews and most of the cons of this car is the fact that a lot of people have problems with the visibility out of the rear window. Moding the tail lights is something I wouldn't do at all. Nice way to be unique though.
