6550 RPM, governed at 6250. The powerband drops significantly after the govenor. But a cam job helps, if thats what someone would be into.

6800rpm is where the fuel cuts off. Haven't hit the rev limiter yet, eh?
[/quote]Nah man Ive only put 145 miles on it so far so sort of babying it till 1k miles. I know I know I should drive it like I stole it but damn I cringe when I shift over 3k rpms lol. It will come in time Im sure.

I thought the rev limiter was 6800rpm stock. I know I bumped it a few times when it was stock, but I have since solved that problem - I no longer have a rev limiter :)

Really? I almost never shift below 3500 unless I am in slow traffic. It likes to rev!

I know i have hit mine a few times and it is 6700 to 6800 here is a video i did with the new muffler. The last clip is 0 to 70 with first gear at red line and it is almost 7 grand. Little hard to see but it is hitting 6700 to 6800.

Nice video. I read somewhere that the redline for the Mazda3 2.3 is in the 7200rpm range, so I think we're probably pretty safe hitting 7k every once in a while. I doubt that there are any internal differences (valve springs, cams, etc) between the 2 engines used in the Mazda3 and the Fusion. I don't know why the Mazda would have a higher rev limiter setting, but maybe during durability testing Ford lowered it on their cars. I just watch my tach now so I don't blow past 7k in first gear. Second gear and up isn't as much of a problem.

i thought it was the 2.0l that let you go past 7k on the Mazda 3. Ive heard though that the 2.3 is safe to around 7200rpm. But anyway, In first gear I wouldn't rev that high because as you can see in slaterracing's video is actually slowed him down revving that high, either that or is was a terrible shift.

My information was terribly wrong LOL. But my revs do cut out earlier than most of yours. I googled a site that had the pre-release specs and it has the v6 and i4 mixed up, I wen't hrmm, sounds right, and tried to help. Anyone else have a dealer flash done in january that limits the revs under 6500? If not, then Im going to the dealer and tell them to fix it. I dont want to find out that they gave me a car with minor issues off the lot, only to find out their handicapped tunes hid the issues(have had this happen before to my sister and an impala.)

Very true, I think you actually do lose some accelaration time by shifting past 6500rpm as the engine is way off the torque peak at that point and shifting earlier puts you back into the heart of the torque curve sooner. But in first gear, since it is geared so low, you can rev it out right up to the rev limiter without much of an adverse affect on acceleration. The power loss after 6500rpm is much more pronounced in 2nd and 3rd gears and in fact I usually shift well before 6500rpm in 2nd and 3rd even when I am pushing it hard onto the freeway enterance. On a good day I can get a chirp out of 3rd gear :)

I wasn't even aware that there was a reflash available for the 2.3. Why did you take it in for the reflash? Does it seem to perform better now? I wouldn't worry about being limited to only 6500rpm as there isn't exactly a ton of power beyond that point. But still...I wonder why they made the change?

I didnt take it in for the reflash. Thats how I received it. Late Jan 2007 is when I bought my fuse, and they had the latest bin loaded.

Ok, got it! My friend just purchased a 2007 2.3 manual like mine so I will soon find out where his rev limiter is :)
I am anxious to see how my tuned Fusion compares to the latest and greatest 2.3 program from Ford.

I have gotten the impression from mine that there is no limiter. I have a 5 Speed Manual so I figured thats why I dont seem to have a limiter. I have missed a gear a few times and accidentally hit the gas in neutral and it revved to almost 8K...scared the shit outta me!!! Anyone else seem to not have a limiter?

1st, holy thread revival from 5.5 years ago batman!!

2nd, the MTX DOES NOT have a rev limiter on the '06-'09s that I know of. My '06 will just keep going till it either blows or I shift. But I don't see a need to go much over 6,500 as the power just drops off like a rock after that. I wouldn't worry about over revving when you miss a shift every once in a long while, but for sure do not make a habit of it. I have done it plenty of times (usually when I think I am in gear but I am not) and still no issues after 95k miles on her.
