The tunes definitely help at all throttle positions not just WOT. Tip-in response is one of the biggest improvements on ETC cars like yours.
The computer will record an "event" when flashed. It does not specify if the event was a reflash or simply a code scan. Just going to AutoZone for a code scan would trigger the same type of event. Scanning for codes is not a warranty violation.
