Engine Driveability

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0606
Powertrain lacks response
High idles after starting engine and lasting about 2 minutes
Intermittent hard to start
Transmission

Transmission shifts too early / too late / too often
Gear changes take too long to complete
Shifts rough or jerky from park
Slow downshifts
Takes too long to engage and/or hesitates while shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse

ACTION:
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) and transmission control module (TCM) to the latest calibration

Has anyone who had 06-21-11 performed later gotten 07-2-3 performed? I wonder if it further improved driveability? I've had 06-21-11 done and have now concluded the automatic, although improved, still has many issues.

Had mine done last week. I'm impressed with the difference. Takes off like rabbitt and the shifts seem crisp. FYI all I got all my info from Cisco. He is a quality guy and his intentions are genuine. Are there any other TSB's thatpeople have installed that have helped the performance of the vehicle? Thanks again Cisco.

:DHad this done also on my 06 V6 SEL Fusion and noticed a difference in the way the car shifts from a stop light. I also told another woman about this TSB on another forum. She was having some weird shifting issues with here automatic V6 Milan. She went and had this done and was very happy with the results. She thanked me for this information. Man! Love the internet!

I had the original reflash done and noticed no difference whatsoever. I personally don't think the dealer did it, they have yet to produce any paperwork saying that it was done- and I've asked them 3X in the last 6 months. I think I'm going to take it to another dealer for the 20k service and see if they will do the latest reflash.

This is the way the dealership my mom bought her Milan from is, but my dealership is wonderful. They have performed the reflash twice on my I4 and I've noticed a big different each time. For my last on it most increase throttle response, it feels like a old cable style throttle because it's so fast and the shifts are smoother. I got to say ford has done well with updates.

Let me describe a problem and see if any of you V6 guys had this and the TSB fixed it. When I come to a stop sign and make less than a total and complete stop, it's like the car shifts to 1st and then jerks badly when I take off. If I'm sitting at a light and take off, then it shifts fine. It like the trans should have gone to 2nd at the stop sign but went to 1st instead. It's impossible to take off smoothly if I don't come to a total stop and sit for several seconds.

Anyone else had this problem?? Thanks

Yep - the first TSB helped this a little bit. Not completely solved it though. I think I need the 2nd one since the car still has some driveability issues. At least it doesn't clunk anymore when I stop and put it in reverse.

I realize this is an old thread, but if any of you have a car that hasn't had this TSB performed, get this done! I didn't have all of the symptoms, but "transmission shifts too late/too early/too often" definitely applied to me. Wow, what a difference! My dealer applied the latest PCM and TCM revs for me, and it's much like Freddy said - much more crisp and "peppy", plus the car is much more sure of what gear it should be in. Highly recommended!

about a month ago i had a post complaining that my car was throwing an ODO ERROR and engine temp error, the car also would not start some times and eventually go to where it didnt start at all.

that problem first started when i was backing out of a spot at a gas station and put my car in drive then clunk my car kicked real hard and would not shift out of first. it cost me 150 to get fixed bc the dealership said i knocked loose a connection to the battery to the computer! does this sound right???

Hi A_bishop07. :wavey: Not trying to be a wiseguy, but did you (or a mechanic) knock loose a connection to your battery/computer? If that is the case, then yes it sounds right. If the battery is disconnected long enough, the engine/transmission (PCM/TCM) must "re-learn" certain parameters.

If no work was done on your car and it would have been impossible for a "connection to the battery" or computer to have been "knocked loose", then it does not sound right.

What work did the Dealer perform to correct the problem? You need to find out this information for us to accurately answer any questions.

According to how you answer the above question, your Dealer "may" have some explaining to do.

Good luck.

I have an 06 Zephyr & was told that I need a new trans. When the car shifts into high gear it hesitates for a few seconds. Recently it seems to throw the system out of sync, corrects itself after starting it again. Trans may be shot, have 90K miles (70K highway)...just does not make any sense because I have really taken care of the car. The (2) TSB items were never taken care of by the dealers, not sure if this may be the reason for my trans issues. thanks -
