FORD: 2006 Fusion
LINCOLN: 2006 Zephyr
MERCURY: 2006 Milan

ISSUE:
Some 2006 Fusion, Milan and Zephyr vehicles may exhibit premature seat bolster wear. The concern is caused by the border wire in the foam pad wearing through the foam and causes the trim cover to wear over time.

ACTION:
To address the customer concern, replace the foam pad along with the trim cover on the seat exhibiting the issue. Follow the service procedure outlined in the Workshop Manual, Section 501-10. The new foam pads are revised to prevent the border wire from wearing through.

What is meant by bolster wear? Im having a problem on the driver seat leather where it is wearing out on the side of the seat that faces the door, not in the seams, on the flat part of the leather. Is this the problem you are experiencing?

Hi fusionpat. Yes, that is the bolster.
Report it to the service department at your dealership, give them the TSB number (TSB 06-24-11) and tell them it pertains to the premature wear problem that you are having with your seat bolsters.
Good luck, and let us know how you make out!

In my experiences service departments don't care for customers rattling off TSB numbers, it infuriates them to no end. They don't want to be told how to do their job, you will wind up on the bottom of the list to get it done ASAP. This is insight not only from my dealership encounters but also from my nephew who is a mechanic at a Toyota dealership in Wisconsin.

so what, we buy a car and go into the service dept. too scared to tell them the issue and what may correct it? who frickin cares what they think, it's their job and their responsibility to fix it. also, your brother is a toyota mechanic, and if his attitude is anything like the toyota dealership around here, they never think anything is wrong with their products. wrongo. toyota has more recalls and problems with their vehicles than any manufacturer in contrast to the percentage built. my salesman showed me this information and also where the fusion beat the accord and camry in quality for '06.

What part are you talking about? It seem as though you are talking about #2 in the picture. My parents are having problems with there Milan in the Area of #1 and there is a bar there that hurts there legs while driving. I showed aprox. where the bar is with blue lines but it isn't wearing through, at least not that they can tell yet. (note: the picture was taken from my fusion)

That's what I want to know because it's number 1 that my parents are having problems with.

I'm having problems again.

This time its the lower area of 2 and 3.

And some of the wires in the back of the seat where you like your back BROKE! So now I'm demanding that the entire seat be replaced with new ones.

I am having this same issue on my 2008 with leather. The side of the bolster that faces the door and doesn't come into human contact is cracking and splitting, far from normal wear and tear areas. My car only has 27,000 miles on it and is just under 2.5 years old. Would this TSB apply? I've never had this happen to any other leather interior I've owned.

Thanks,
Scott

I thought that issue was taken care of on the late 07-08. There is a piece of foam that is supposed to be in there to cover the metal...but there is not. Leather rubbing against metal will cause a hole every time. My service order was written at 33000 miles. I now have 58k and my seat is still not fixed. POS dealer keeps telling me they can't get the parts. I went to a couple of other dealers and they won't touch it because another dealer has already written it up and put it in the computer. Take it to the dealer and cross your fingers. I hope your luck with them is better than mine.
