The Ford Fusion Hydrogen 999
By Yolanda Vazquez (MotorWeek)

The race is on for innovative hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles. But, Ford is bringing new meaning to that race by making history with a hydrogen fuel-cell race car.

The Ford Fusion Hydrogen 999 fuel-cell race car has set a land speed record of over 207 miles-per-hour at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah.

The 999 is the world's first and only production based hydrogen fuel-cell race vehicle. Built in collaboration with Ballard Power Systems, Roush, and the Ohio State University Center for Automotive Research, the 999 demonstrates the pure potential of fuel-cell technology. And, its success further boosts Ford's hopes to see hydrogen ultimately meet the energy needs of the transportation sector.

With an industry first, like the 999, Ford has started a new race to the fuel-cell future and shown their commitment to provide commercially viable hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles for consumers. And that's it for this week's MotorNews.

Here are some pix of this awesome Fusion. It clearly has a stock body with opening doors, window glass, etc., although the grille and headlights are obviously filled in. Great effort by Ford to take the Hydrogen land speed record with this car!
