Caught the show. Way cool. Good PR for Ford and the Fusion in particular. They had a lot of nice compliments and comments about the Fusion, especially the AWD version. Thanks, Fewshun07, for the heads up.

That's terrific mileage Fewshun07. We have a 2007 V6 AWD SEL that's only delivering 14.8 mpg in all city driving with about 3,000 miles on the car. What's your secret? My wife and I are very conservative, gentle drivers. Our terrain is flat. Our climate is mild. The tires are properly inflated. We reset the on-board computer at each fill-up. We should have bought an I4.

I am not a slow driver, although in my old age I do drive a little more conservatively. From the beginning the car has been pretty good on gas.I check it by the computer and calculator at each fillup.I don't think I would be happy with the I4. I had a Focus before this and it was OK but not smooth like the Fusion V6. Smooth and quiet is good these days. You should identify with that Boz.The older you get the more most of us mellow out somewhat, even though I still like great handling and speed.

I definitely identify with "smooth and quiet" as well as great handling and speed when its needed.

We have a 2000 Ford Focus station wagon with a 2.0-liter I4 4-speed automatic that seems pretty peppy to me, for what it is. It has 92,000 miles on it and we get 19-20 mpg for all-city driving. It has never been a mileage champion either. The EPA estimate for this power train is 25-26 mpg, but I never achieved that in city driving but come close to it on trips (EPA highway rating is 32).

I didn't think Ford's 160-horsepower I4 would be enough engine for the 3,000-pound Fusion but with the way gasoline prices have escalated I sure do wish now that we had bought an I4, just for the mileage.

Boz,Do yourself a favor and sell the AWD and buy the I4. You and I know you are never going to be satisfied with that car. Undoubtely there is something drastically wrong with it.

Fewshun07,
Actually my wife and I really like almost everything about the car EXCEPT the in-city mileage. We have no rattles, squeaks, no bubbling chrome on the door handles, none of the complaints that others have reported on the three forums I participate in. Nary a boo-boo whatsoever.

I would trade for an SEL I4 in a heartbeat if it didn't mean taking a bath on the depreciation. Then I would be complaining about the lack of power. :) I should just shut up about the mileage and enjoy the car. I'm still hoping the mileage will improve since we only have 3,000 miles on it.

But yes, you are right. I am never going to be totally satisfied with the car until/unless it delivers at least the revised EPA estimate of 17 mpg city. It's at 14.8 now, so maybe it will. I think the AWD feature is the culprit. That was definitely a big-time mistake, but "The Guzzler" sure does handle well, I'll give it that.

I wish you the best of luck with it,although with the gas crunch I believe we are all going to be in a world of hurt shortly. If you could sell the car in a private sale, maybe you wouldn't be hurt so much.
I am like you in some things. No rattles or any defects that i have found. The car just doesn't feel tight to me. I like a firmer more planted ride. It is undersprung and the shocks are too soft. It also needs seats that are more supportive in spirited driving. :)
