Dear all, I usually post at MAzda3Forums or Focus forums, but here is a little bit about Fusion:

here is a Jalponik post based on my email to them: http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/news/svt-to-pull-lazarus-manuever-174910.php
It links to Wards Auto interview with Jamie Allison that says the SVT Fusion and Edge are in the works.

Please also see this post: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=47043.new#new
It shows an indication of what Ford thought up for the D35... Twin Turbo 350hp/325ft/lb

My wet dream is that engine in AWD Fusion... or Edge with SVT styling clues and badges on it.

An AWD Twin Turbo would be very impressive. I wonder if we'll actually get anything like that? I'm sure the beancounters won't let them do anything that will hurt Mustang sales. :(

Twin Turbo will never hit the streets...no way. With the maintenence that comes with running dual turbo's -- I highly doubt it.

That and it would smoke the Mustang. Ford would never let anything be faster than the Mustang.

the ford gt is not a working mans car. the mustang and fusion are. two different classes here. ford will never let a "family car" out perform the mustang.

I don't know about that statement.

I know that my SVT Focus would run with a stock GT just fine if I could hit every gear perfectly... but as for a TT Fusion, that would rock, but I'd prefer a big single ;)

Twin Turbo may be faster than the stock Mustang GT but it would not hold a candle to the GT500 so that is not really an issue. I also doubt that a Twin Turbo would be much faster than a stock GT, slightly perhaps but nothing insanely faster since the price would be on par with a Mustang GT anyway.

You are also talking the GT500 being about $20,000 dollars MORE. Same segment for arguments sake.

Not a normal Fusion, but a SVT then it should be faster than a normal Mustang GT. That's what the SVT Mustang is for to keep it ahead of a SVT Fusion.

Just spoke with me neighbor - design guy for Ford (he designed the Fusion exterior styling). He is working on the 2010 Edge restyling now. He said that the Fusion ST will indeed be a TURBO! But, he doesn't know much more about it. He said that it has been in the works for a few years. His group is located away from the SVT group now, so he doesn't get to talk to them very much anymore. He couldn't say if it was a 4 or 6 cylinder turbo. He also said that a high performance version of the Edge will be released in the near future.

Turbo in the fusion?..would it not then just be the same Mazdaspeed6 motor (2.3 I4). If they're talking turbo, than would this not be the most logical crossover. Not much "development" to be done. Just raise the hood, throw down the AWD hardware, 6-speed (sweeeet) snicker, rockers and a front air dam. Most importantly: sign me up.

I just hope itsn't priced like a MSP6, but I'm sure it will be (if not more). $32k is a bit much when you can buy a Mustang GT for less coin.

I know we all wish for a performance Fusion of some sort. But lets face the music, the Mustang is Fords winner in this category. Ford will never allow sales to be taken away from the Mustang.. :( So, the SVT Fusion will probably be a sport tuned Fusion with the 3.5 260HP V6... maybe offer a 6spd manual or some sort of manumatic transmission. Some ground affects or body pieces to be able to distinguish from regular Fusions.. and that it folks...

I disagree, a lot of people who would look at the Fusion would not look at the Mustang, as they want the room with performance. Also, remember the old SHO's were equal with the old Fox Bodies with a good driver. That didn't take away sales from the Mustang, two totally different categories of vehicles.

Dude, a good driver in a early 90's SHO could take out a Fox-Body. Those things flew, they sadly got slower with time.

Your right, I had a memory fart!..  I 've owned both the Fox Body and a SHO.  93 SHO Forest Green, and a 89 Black and Grey Mustang GT with the optional 3.55 gears.  Ahh those were fun cars.[

The old Taurus SHO's were wicked fast. I looked for one for a while before getting my fusion. I thought maybe, just maybe I could find a pristine and low mikleage SHO. I was wrong. :( Anyways, I remember the SHO easily hanging with the Mustang GT's of the time. I don't know the stat's but I think they were neck and neck. Anyone have some old Car and Driver mag.'s stored somewhere. I'm sure they did a comparison at one time or another. If anyone has 0-60 and 1/4 times for stock models please post them!!!! :klavergreg: :klavergreg: :klavergreg: :klavergreg: :klavergreg: :klavergreg:

The old SHO's and Mustang GT's were both high 6 sec to 60mph cars. Not "wicked fast" by any means but impressive for the time.

In response to what SWOOP said, a focus SVT has no chance with a new mustang GT no matter how its driven.

And I agree with everyone elses sentiments about a turbo Fusion not coming out.Not during this current generation Fusion at least. A 350hp awd Fusion would take attention from the mustang. Especially given that they say a Fusion coupe has been confirmed.Think about it. A 280hp EVO does 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds. This Fusion(although heavier) would definitely be capable of a sub 5 sec to 60 time. Thats too close to the Shelby's time especially given that it would most likely cost 20k less.

I think ford will, in order to keep costs low(remember, its not like Ford can afford to waste money at all), release a awd 3.5 liter coupe version of the Fusion with perhaps some suspension/brake/visual tuning if they ever even release a SVT verison at all.

P.S. Everyone knows Ford has been playing with Twin Turboing this engine but the 6 speed auto cant take 325 lb ft of torque so they have to deal with that issue also. Like I said before, I HIGHLY doubt it will happen at all in the fusion and definitely not this generation.Fun to think about however. :)
