Hi WLB and welcome to the Ford Fusion Club. With an absolute minimum of information, it is virtually impossible to blindly diagnose an issue like this over the Internet. Even with more information, it would still be difficult (at best) to accurately diagnose,

If you do not have the necessary diagnostic tools, you will need to have this issue properly diagnosed and repaired by a Ford Dealer, or an independent shop you trust which has Hybrid vehicle experience.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I had thought I'd entered a rather complete description of various aspects of problem but being new it was unclear if posting was posted. So let me do that here:
Problem has occurred 4 times now over the past 4 months and each time I have taken it to Ford deal for repair. Basic performance that takes place is after a highway run with cruise control on of about 60 to 70 miles at 65 mph, stop safely warning appears, gasoline engine shuts and I am able to, with some luck, get over to shoulder and stop. After checking under hood each time and finding nothing obvious, and allowing car to rest for 15-20 minutes am able to restart and each time limp home or to the dealer at speeds of 35-50 mph.
1st occurrence showed codes P1A0C and P03AE along with an intermittent sticking throttle body. Tech replaced Throttle body, cleared codes, test drove car and said it was good to go.
2nd occurrence. When returned it was not performing well in Hybrid mode and once again had the stop safely warning occur under similar driving conditions. Tech found no codes but "found" TSB 20-2142 and reprogrammed BECM and PCM and road tested good with Hybrid mode working very well.
3rd occurrence happen within 15 days of that repair and dealer tech found code P0A3E which directed replacement of transmission. Tech contacted Ford Engineering and over a 4 day period they decided issue was the transmission coolant temperature sensor and connector. Inspection revealed connector short with pin sockets burnt. They were replaced along with coolant, codes cleared, rode tested and returned. Immediately it was obvious that there was/is an issue since HEV gauge was pegged high and did not attempt to move back to mid range but Service Manager said I had to "put about 1000 miles on it to get it corrected."
I had been doing that with fantastic vehicle performance around town and on highway for short trips (less than 25 miles). Every aspect of performance has been better than when new except for HEV gauge which has remained pegged at full capacity.
Tried long trip and made it to 68 miles at 65mph cruise control on with AC on. Stop safely light came on and lost engine again. Limped home with frequent stops and SSW occurring.
Would love to have car repaired since it is-was a delight to drive but the uncertainty of successful repair, even with Ford Engineers involved, is a showstopper that impacts on continued use of a now unreliable car. Hence the question as to whether anyone has successfully had a Stop Safely Warning Repair made on the 2012 Hybrid? I sincerely hope this is enough info for comparative responses.
Thank you one and all for any guidance.

YES. Solution was to tell Ford Tech to replace Electronics water pump. All signs were that heat was issue but no codes showed up, so rather than have a very nice vehicle that was only good for short trips around town I told them to double check that water pump and replace it. I have put about 5000 miles on car under same highway conditions that caused problems on 5 different occasions without an issue. Hope this helps you and I'm certain that if you have a reasonable Ford Tech he will double check your electric pump. Good Luck, WLB JOHN

(y)Thanks for your quick reply WLB John.Glad to hear your SSN problem is resolved. I had suspected the Electronics Pump and asked my mechanic to look at that weeks ago and it seemed to be operating and flowing. I'm guessing your pump worked as well but was failing intermittently and that allows us to drive for quite a while. I did take it to a ford dealer in Hempstead NY weeks ago and they did the Hybrid battery update now my mpg around town are dramatically better but it didn't solve the SSN problem that occurs after 40 minutes of 60-70 mph driving. I'm going to have my mechanic change out the pump and bleed the system. Appreciate your help and .congratulations on that magnificent striped bass.
