Has anyone installed a autostart system with the perimeter alarm option? I have the side curtain airbags option and it comes with the perimeter alarm system. I'm going to have a 2 way remote auto start installed and wonder if there is any problems.

Cheers

Good deal! Give us an update!

A friend of mine has an envoy and its auto-start is built in to the computer. All he does is flip the key and the car cranks till it starts.

I tried that with the fusion to unsatisfiying results.

Which is why autostart is more expensive then just a $50 add on (or so I was told).

I had the dealer put an autostart into my SEL V-6 before I took delivery. He charged $325 installed, and took care of the 'intellignet key' problem. Works like a charm, from up to 75 feet away.

I did not opt for the version with extra goodies since the Fusion has all it needs for remote entry. The booklet with the remote start says it can send a pulse when energized, which means I can wire it to start the rear defrost, front defrost, seat heater, or whatever. I haven't attacked that option yet.

BTW the remote start is an additional little pushbutton thingie which is on my keychain. If I thought $325 was a lot, we've had cold weather, snow, and a lot of crap here and everytime I can just go to the window and push a button it is worth $325 to see the green envy on the faces of my coworkers who have to go outside and warm up their cars.

I also put one on my '96 Contour, but did it myself. It cost about $200 and it was one hell of a job, required extra parts ( a Radio Shack box and a switch) to have summer/winter control, etc. For the extra bucks, let the dealer do it!

Hubby had the remote start installed for me as a birthday gift. (Here I thought the car itself was the gift!) Dealer installed. It works great except that when I leave the heated seats on and then shut the car off, they don't come back on when using the remote start. Here I thought my tush would be toasty when I got in the car and it isn't. Hmph. I guess I am spoiled.

I don't know if they hooked up the rear defrost option. I read about it in the manual, but haven't tried it out yet. I agree, watching co-workers angry green faces when they have to go outside to warm up their cars in 25 degree weather, while I just hit a button, is priceless.
