Just wanted to know if anyone knew why Ford recommends 5000 km interval on the 2.3L when Mazda recommends 8000 km interval on the same engine.I checked the manual on my wifes 6.This adds up to a significant differance in maintainance costs for me as I do about 40000 km a year for work.I called Ford to ask about it but they never replied and the dealer claims to know nothing.Thx guys............. :(

Hi BramptonFusion. I have an MKZ 3.5L V-6, and do not know if the oil change service intervals are the same. However, I do know that Ford's normal oil change intervals are usually 3,000 miles heavy duty service, and 5,000 miles normal service (U.S. measurements).

Coincidentally, those mileage amounts convert to 4828.032 kilometers (5,000 rounded off), and 8046.72 kilometers (8,000 rounded off). Is it possible you are reading or being quoted a mix of miles/kilometers/ or normal service/heavy duty service, that is confusing the actual service intervals. I hope I am not confusing you, but I think this could possibly be the problem.

I would just double check exactly what service interval baselines you are reading or being quoted. Hope this helps.

Good luck!

PS - On the MKZ's 3.5 V-6, intervals are 5,000 miles heavy duty, 7,500 miles normal service. Again, I am not sure about other engines.

Hello again, BramptonFusion. I was able to locate an online verion of the Fusion Owner's Manual/Maintenance Schedule (I will try to add a link below). It shows a normal usage schedule of 5,000 miles (8000 kilometers) for an oil change. So, at least according to the info I can find, the intervals are the same for Ford and Mazda. Good luck.

Thanks for the info.It seems that Ford considers Canada a severe duty area hence the more frequent service intervals.I find this funny because we have better weather than say Wisconsin or Michigan or most of your other cold weather states. We still have no snow on the ground here in the Toronto area.
I think the thing that bothers me the most is the [move]warranty issue [/move] because this is a work vehicle and I do about 35-40 K kilometers a year ( 24000 Miles).I don't want to give them any excuse to deny coverage.
