Ain't even mad.

My 2012 Fusion Sport is averaging 24.5 mpg and I got it up to 27 on a 500 mile road trip.

The 2006 Milan is getting about 23.6mpg (smaller engine too)

And I do agree with the EcoBoost vs 3.0 or 3.5 V6. The the 2.0L in my wife's Focus averages 35.2 mpg. That being said, it's slow as fuck.

So you have a 2.0L EcoBoost in a Focus, & you claim that it is slow as fuck? I would have thought that it would perform much better in a Focus, seeing as the Focus is a much smaller car than the Fusion with that same motor....

Wow.

My bad, forgot to mention it is a 2011 Focus, so it doesn't have the EcoBoost. Just the plain old naturally aspirated 2.0L. Boring engine for a boring car, but we got 39.8 mpg on a 1800 mile cross country road trip.

Okay, so I swapped my ride which was a 2010 Fusion with the 3.0l V6 AWD for the 2014 Fusion with the 2.0L AWD. I took it out on the highway, set it on cruise at 100km/hr (60 miles/hr). This car surprised me when I checked the fuel efficiency... and not in a good way. It turns out that this 4 Cylinder gets WORSE or close to the same fuel mileage as the old 3.0L V6....

So what exactly is the point of it? Why not keep the 3.0l V6 since it gets the same economy anyways. What's the advantage of having the 2.0l EcoBoost?

In addition to the poor fuel economy, this car also did not perform as well as the 3.0 V6. So you've got a turbo 4 cylinder car that averages the same fuel econmy as the V6, & slightly less performance. :screwy:
Have you broke in your 2014? That makes a huge difference l.

The only reasons I can think of for eliminating the V6 is that the 2.0 Ecoboost 4 does better in the EPA gas mileage testing, and maybe the V6 just won't fit in the redesigned chassis/body? I agree that the 2.0 EB does nothing for gas mileage vs the 3.0 V6. But the 4 runs great IMHO. And if you want a new Fusion you have no better engine choice.

IMO there is no reason the V6 shouldn't fit in the 13+ Fusion. They still offer a 3.7 V6 in the MKZ.

I'd like to get a little better MPG with my '12. Driving around Vegas I see about 17-18. Part of it is driving habits, but that's too hard to adjust with the drivers around here.

Highway i've been doing poorly, low 20's, but that's 100% me. I can't keep my foot out of it and usually travel between 80-90 on the interstate between Vegas and St. George, UT. Hardly flat terrain. I can get around 30 if I pace myself, but I never leave myself that much time :(

I knew it could fit a larger motor. Ford just has this craze of putting tiny engines into their vehicles for fuel economy, & throw in turbos to make up for the the performance. This is a bad idea because it is still a lot of work on the motor. Maybe in EPA tests they do well; but in real life, they suck back the fuel. I heard that Ford also put a 4 cylinder in the Mustang. To me, that is not an authentic Mustang.

Almost every manufacturer is using smaller turbocharged, direct injected engines these days. Ford bringing back a 4 cylinder Mustang is no news either, because they had a 2.3L Turbo I4 in the Mustang all throughout the 1980s.

The 3.7L in the MKZ makes 300HP and is the same motor in the V6 Mustang (which has 305HP, and gets 31 MPG highway).

My 2010 Fusion SE 2.5 has gradually moved up from an average around 28.3mpg in August to about 30mpg in the past couple months. Most of my driving is back and forth to work @ around 72-75 MPH.

I'm a little underwhelmed at the gas mileage of my 2008 Fusion SE 3.0. In town, I get anywhere from 17-19 mpg; on the highway I get usually get 26 to 28 (I remember hitting 30 at one point for a short while, but that's the peak mpg I've ever seen in the car.) I'd like to consistently get a couple more, especially in town, but can't seem to get there. Good struts/springs, good tires/pressure, good alignment, oil/air, NGK Iridium IX plugs, etc. etc..

Idk. I do realize it's a three liter v6; maybe my expectations are skewed by some of the newer Focuses and Fusions that I've rented that easily get 5-7 more city and highway both. Lol. I'm demanding I guess.

My 2013 Fusion Titanium is right on in city mileage but not real great on highway. Most of that is my fault as I tend to be heavy on the gas pedal but driving easy I get 27 and hypermiling it on the highway the best I could get was 30 MPG. The car has 19,000 miles on it, got it with 3k miles.

My current feeling is extreme disappointment with my 2017 Ford Fusion Platinum AWD with the 2.0L EB. I drive a big boat 2005 Buick Lacrosse like I stole it and maintain 27-28 mpg with its v6 3800 engine. I am frustrated with my preliminary reading of approximately 26 mpg with the Fusion when I drive as gingerly as possible.

I have not had a 4 cylinder car in a long time and I am possibly discovering why. The majority of my drive takes place on the I95 corridor. General speed I like to maintain is 80 mph with my other v6. That speed produces dismal mpg results in the 2.0L EB. DISMAL. I reduced to 75 mph maintained on smart cruise control and obviously the mpg improves the lower the speed. At the 80 mph the RPMs tach away at 3-3.5 that signifies an obviously smaller engine attempting an output it is not inherently designed for.

My commute one way is 75 miles. It starts on 18 miles of paved back roads, small hills and somewhat curvy; Smart Cruise Control at 50 mph-slower at times for curves. 50 miles is I95 highway; Smart Cruise Control at 75 mph; Final 7 miles is stop and go lights city driving at 45 mph. Attempting to keep rpms below 3k shooting for conservative driving 2-2.5k rpm with accelerations has produced the approximate 26 mpg on this route.

Results are extremely premature though. Mileage is currently 4900 on the vehicle and this is the first test tank of gas. My hope is that it continues to improve upward over time with consistent test driving results. I admit jealousy of my coworker's new Hyundai Sonata plain 4 cylinder getting 35 mpg with a similar drive in length and layout. I figured the 2.0L EB would perform better out of the gate.
