First things first on the fusion.........the stockers have to go as soon as humanly possible.
Most of the rims I have been eying are 17x8 with a 40+ offset. What (if any) problems am I
going to have fit wise. There will be no problems on the outside obviously as the offset is
the same stock. I'm more concerned about the front control arms and steering linkage
going with a rim 1.5" bigger on the inside. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Stevo

I believe Skull Cowboy is running 18x8 w/a +35mm. Need to check the post to see if that is right.

he is 18X7.5 with a 35mm. I installed them! :klavergreg:

Jaysen, the rims I'm looking at also have a 35mm offset like Skull's but they are 18 x 8.5"... do you think this will pose a problem or will I be okay?
I used this Wheel Offset Calculator and the difference between the new rims and my 16" stockers is 20mm less inner clearance and the outside edge would extend 30mm....

The problem is I have no idea if this is too much for the Fusion, could you help me out?

There's about 24mm clearance between the tire and the front knuckle, so you're pushing it.

For the original poster, remember that increasing the wheel width from 7in to 8in means half will go to the inside, half to the outside. So a 17x8 with the stock offset will still stick out half an inch. Offset is measured to the center of the wheel, not the outside face.

You should be fine, but as stated above it will be close. I think it would stick out a bit far for my preference however.

Thanks Waldo and Jaysen for your helpful answers, I appreciate it! As for the debate between 18's or 20's, I too considered a bigger wheel, but instead chose the 18's - the ones I'm looking at will have the width of a larger sized rim (8.0 - 8.5"), but still have plenty of tire. My bro has some 19's on his car and he told me he is not happy with the ride quality...

It's a good compromise between good looks, comfort, and price. And there's a pretty big difference between rim and tire prices for 18's and 20's...

Yep, 20s :bananadance: But, like I said in another thread, the size is all about a person's taste and driving style. I like more rim, others like more tire. A guy gave me a compliment on my ride yesterday. I was strapping my son in his car seat, and he parked beside me and got out his truck (on my passenger side), just observing my ride HARD, he came around, "Damn, man, you got some 20's on it? I didn't think 20s could fit on these little cars. You got this b**** sitting tight! I got to get my wife one now." Of course I said "Thanks.", but why my ride got to be a "b****"?

Ahhh.......It is not for you to know my son. The secret of the ancients will one day be revealed. Until then you must accept that your ride may be a b****. All things will be understood in time Grasshopper!
