no im serious this time, i just got my mercury milan. i touched the liquid and it appeared to be water so I guess I'm OK then. However, my mpg reading is 9.5!!! is there something wrong? my driving consists of accelearting and braking and acclerating and braking because the manual says to vary the speed. will this cause mpg to drop to 9.5?

How many miles are on your car now? V6 or 4 cylinder? If your mpg readout on the dash says 9.5, you must be flooring it at every light with the AC on full, and never getting up to any kind of speed where you can use overdrive. Got any pics of your Milan?

Fill your car up with fuel, reset your trip odometer, and drive for 150-200 miles straight on the highway and varying speeds (55-65). After that fill up again and figure out your actual MPG by dividing miles driven by gallons used. This should also bring your vehicle to high enough temp for a length of time to burn anything off.

If it still exists then take it back to the dealer.

itsa 6 cylinder, about 80 miles now

i go on local roads varying speeds between 0-60

i go on high way varying speeds between 50-100.

won't varying speeds between 55-65 just lock the car in one gear?

I think just normal driving conditions varies the the engine speed enough. I never used any special break-in procedures with my cars. I wouldn't worry too much about what the dash mpg reading says with only 80 miles on it. After about 1000 miles you will notice an increase in mileage, at least I did on mine. Enjoy that Milan. What color did you get?

First, congratulations ...

Second, I though driving below 110 was just plain dangerous ...

i drive at 110mph but if there is any danger of collision, my foot is on the brake pedal. my foot is usually almost always on the brake pedal no matter what. i am a safe driver.

i find that if you drive on a long trip, driving 130mph and weaving might actually be safer than driving 85. This is because you get to the destination much faster, so much less chance of getting drowsy, and also, you are more concentrated on your driving. If you drive 6 hours at 85, you are much more likely to doze off than if you drive 4 hours at 130

its around 1000 miles and 18.4 MPG now

it is still low by the rating standards. i do have a heavy foot though and i generally floor the throttle to accelerate. is this gas mileage still low for aggressive driving?

the annoying rev limiter kicks in (applies brakes?) at around 112 mph though.. is that normal?

this is only for long trips and not during break-in time. the manual says to vary speed during break-in
