Hi guys! Just got a Fusion last week. I am looking at upgrading the factory speakers, adding an amp, and doing some monitors. But I have a couple questions for all of you.

1) From a previous thread I read, the front/rear door speakers are 5x7's? This would be a direct replacement, correct?

2) I am not sure this would work, but I thought I would trow it out there. Does the factory system have an amplifier it runs threw after the factory head unit? The reason I ask is, can I connect the speaker wires for my new amp at the factory head unit location, and run them to my new multi-channel amplifier? So I can avoid running wires threw the door. Is this possible without any damage? J/K

3) As far as headrest monitors go, has anyone out there done this, and what size of monitors did you do?

Thanks in advance, and love the site.

I'll try to answer questions 1 & 2 but don't know anything about adding headrest monitors.

1) 5x7's are a direct replacement. If you have the budget, I would suggest you look at component speakers to replace the door speakers and a-pillar tweeters. I didn't have the budget to do this, but I know components will sound better, especially if you are adding an amp.

2) If you have the premium stereo (not the audiophile), there is no external amplifier. I have a sub/amp in the trunk and a 2 channel powering my front speakers (both amps are mounted to the backside of my rear seat). I had the amp/sub professionally installed and then later decided to add the 2 channel and did the install myself. To make a long story short(er), it's impossible to get new speaker wires into the doors. You will have to bring the amplified signal to the back of the head unit, and connect to the factory wires there. I have my amps daisy chained together with a line level signal. I then ran speaker wires from the amp to the back of the head unit and spliced into the factory speaker wires. I read somewhere else that you can splice into the rear speakers somewhere near the b-pillar, but I don't know that from experience. I have the stereo wiring diagram that I can email you if you send me your email address.

You didn't mention adding a sub, which I would recommend as your first upgrade to the stereo. Adding a sub will make more of a difference than upgrading the door speakers. Anyway- I hope this was helpful

Thanks for the reply! I do have the wiring digram. Thanks. A sub was a given, I am definitely going to add that. I have three new JL Audio 10w's left over form when I did the system in my boat. A few more questions;

1) Does anyone have any pictorials or instruction on removing the front and rear doors? I have only had the car a few days, and in those few days it hasn't even been with me. It has been getting the window tinted. :D

2) Also, does the factory tweeter connect off the factory midbass, I assume? So the crossover would have to be mounted in the door in this situation.

Thanks for the input, I will keep ya updated.

I'm a big JL fan- I have a 12" in my trunk. The door panels are simple to remove. It has 4 screws- two on the edge of the door panel, one behind the door opener and one in the door pull on the armrest. After that it's just a matter of popping out the things that hold the panel to the door. I suggest a door panel removal tool so you don't scratch anything. The factory tweeter is wired to the mid-bass in the door, and the mid-bass has a crude looking crossover soldered to the basket. I made the mistake of leaving my tweeters in after I added new 2ways to the door panel. After a couple of weeks I removed the tweeters. If you were to do components, the crossover would need to be in the door.

Can anyone give me an idea of the amount of space in the door for the crossovers? I am looking at doing MB Quart components all the way around, but the crossovers are kind of big. I just want to make sure I can get them in there. Anyone have components in there, and if so what kind? I was also thinking about using an adapter plate to accommodate a 5.25" round speaker, since the selection seems to be a little better. Any thoughts on why I shouldn't do this? Thanks for the help guys! Shawn

If you mount between the door panel and the door, the space in kind of tight. It would depend on the size of the crossover. I don't think you could mount it inside the door due to moisture concerns- but I'm not positive. I'd get a measurement of the MB crossover and then remove the door panel and do some measuring- or it might slide down under the window controls. You can remove that panel without removing the door. I don't see any reason why a 5.25 wouldn't work well. It might lack a little mid-bass vs the 6.5, but probably not enough to miss since you'll be adding a sub. Sorry I can't help you much on the crossovers.

Thanks for the input. Will a 6.5" round driver work in the door without modification? I have been told so many different sizes. Thanks, Shawn
