Hello everybody, like the title says, future 2017 Fusion Energi Platinum Owner (looking closely at one for sale now) and the owner sent me a picture of the leather dashboard that appears to be "tightening up" as he put it, right near the A Pillar. I think it is probably delaminating. Anyone else have this problem and is it fixable without removing/replacing the dash pad ? Should I pass on it or ask for a price reduction ? Thanks ! Tom
Hi F-F. An proper diagnosis depends on the particular position and amount of dash de-lamination. And we obviously can not see it.
However, blind Internet diagnosis...If you want it to look like invisible/"like new", this issue is normally not easily fixable.
In most cases, making it look like new will require a new dash pad. Or you an check with an automotive upholstery shop to see if they can repair it. Otherwise, you are looking at replacing the dash pad (expensive) to make it look like new.
My blind Internet advice? If you are an exacting person who wants the car to look like new, pass on it. If you can live with it (we can't see it), or with an imperfect dash repair, ask for a price reduction.
Also, keep in mind that while there is leather trim on some of the dashboard areas, most of the dashboard is vinyl, not leather.
