MPG/MPH

What's with the MPG, my V6 SEL averages 23MPG, while 90% of my miles are highway.(is it break in period)?
I did reset when I got on thr H'way & received 31MPG for that trip (H'way only).
MPH sits around 29, when 90% is at 70+, how could this be???

ya 29mph, seems wrong , cuz most of my driving is 70mph plus...
I have a V6 SEL. My Wife and I took a trip to Kentucky from Ohio and got 41.9 MPG half way there (188 miles)! Half of that distance (Dayton, OH) was freeway cruising at 70-75 MPH. The other half was mostly highway, and passing cars on a 2 lane road (50-85MPH) about 3 times. I was pounding on it pretty good after that, and especially in Newport KY and Cincinnatti OH. So, round trip average was 31 MPG. We were up to 100 a few times in Cincinatti. Traffic is insane there, and I don't like being sandwiched between tankers!
I have driven a lot of cars, but I have to say this car is by far the most powerfull I've driven in the upper end. My 01 Mustang GT we traded  :( didn't have that kind of power up there!

My normal driving consists mostly of around town trips, about 5 to 6 a day, and then a 12 mile trip to work and back. With that, I average 23-25 MPG. And I DRIVE AGRESSIVELY!

By the way, if you haven't already, use full synthetic oil! It does make a difference!
Those mpg numbers are insane! WAY higher than any V6 numbers I have seen. The best I have knocked down on the hwy (70mph driving) is 36mpg with my 2.3 manual. Did you ever check your mpg at the pump to see if your computer numbers are accurate? Or are the numbers that you posted actually calculated from your fill-ups? I have never actually calculated mine - I just rely upon the computer readings. Some day....
41.9 MPG?
I just returned from a trip to Houston from Omaha, Nebraska in my Fusion SEL V6. On the way down I averaged about 26.5 MPG. My average speed was between 65-70 MPH. My average speed on the return trip was 67 MPH and gas mileage improved to 27.6 MPG. I've just surpassed 3400 miles so break-in is about through. I would imagine it should be fully broken-in by 5K.
The car performed beautifully on the trip! I was surprised that the mileage was as high as it was with the average temp going there and back was between 90-100 degrees.
I'm looking forward to making more road trips in this car. I just need to get satellite radio installed to make the trip seem shorter!
I don't rely on the computer's calcualtor for mileage since the averages get watered down over time, and it calculates remaining miles based on past driving habits. Basically, we went from our house to Dayton, OH (188 miles). We filled up before we left and by the time we got to Dayton it was at 3/4 tank. Since the tank is listed as 17.5 gal, 1/4 tank is 4.375 gallons. 188/4.375 is 42.971 mpg. So, actually, I listed it wrong. I've noticed w/ all four windows down, the mileage is best. Next is windows up, air on. Worst is just the front windows being down; must be too much drag on the car. There's a lot of buffeting w/ just the front windows down anyway, and that's annoying.

I've also got 8,000 miles on the car, so that may factor in also. I use Castrol Syntec 5w20 w/ a Fram ToughGard TG2 filter (same size as my 94 V8 T-Bird, and the Crown Vic HPP and Mustang GT I had in the past). I thought that was pretty cool.

I wish Ford would communicate with owners like ourseleves and use that as testimony. I'm greatly impressed with this car and get compliments on it all the time. That, combined with comfort, quickness and mileage makes for one heck of a nice car!

breadboy97,

Ya might want to research those Fram filters. I was a diehard Fram Extra Guard user back when they were the best but now that they have been so incredibly cheapened I wouldn't use 'em if they were free. I've cut open a bunch - Yikes !

As for Castrol Syntec it's an overpriced semi-synthetic being labeled as a synthetic (Europe doesn't allow that!). Better oils for less $ are true syns such as Mobil 1 and 8) Pennzoil Platinum. For more info you can check out THE oil forum: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi
Am I the only one getting shit gas mileage. I average 17mpg on the highway with my 4 cylinder automatic. Dealership says some cars just get bad gas mileage and refuse to check it out.

Using that method to calculate mileage isn't even close to accurate. You'll NEVER truly see 40+ MPG from the V6 over the course of a 188 mile trip.

[/quote]No kidding.

The only way to do it is at the pump, miles/gallons. Not "this is where the needle was when I last looked". Besides, it's in the V shape anyway, the top half goes longer than the bottom half -- ever notice?
I've been through 3 tankfuls now, at 1150 miles, and fill up calculated MPG's have been 19.5, 19.8, 20.2 pretty even city/hwy mix. I don't drive aggressive. One thing I've noticed as well. The computer has been consistently .4 to .5 mpg low in it's estimate.

Some advice for those getting "poor" mileage. One, are you figuring your mileage via the fill-up methed or the computer. Second, have the computer re-flashed. I've seen that fix mileage/response problems on other vehicles.

Not the most prompt reply, I know. As someone else said, this is not a valid method for calculating fuel economy. You need to fill the car up to a certain number of clicks, drive it a good distance (the deeper into the tank the better), then fill it again to the same number of clicks, preferably at the same pump (though of course this will rarely be practical). The divide miles by gallons.

The first 1/4 as shown ona the gauge is, in my experience, often equal to about the first third or even a bit more. Dividing by 5.5 rather than 4.375 yields about 34 mpg, which seems more likely.

Members of my panel can submit fuel economy results here: http://www.truedelta.com/fuel_economy.php. I use a more detailed form than anywhere else, with the intent of getting some valid real-world mpg figures.
I have been tracking this very carefully. I have the four cyl/five speed stick. Around town, short trips, winter driving will net 20 mpg.
summer time it jumps up 3-4 mpg.

Combined driving nets a coinsistent 26-with the highway driving pulling it up.

Straight highway, as calculated by the computer will do 30-34 mpg. When Ive checked it by the actual fill up method- full tank to full tank, ive gotten 31(typical) to a high of 32.5.

anyone says there getting better, I don't believe it. The epa rating is 31, and it seems to be right on.
scroll with the info button on the dash. I have the 4 cyl. auto and those numbers seem to be about like mine also.

Here is some shots of what i have been gettin, and this is not at reset or anything. I was gettin 470 on my trip to NY i just took and averagin 47mpg with that. Also i added a pic of my first fill up since i have been back, iam gettin 431 it seems on a full tank, city driveing right now.

BlackdOutFusion,

It looks like the bottom pic says you averaged 47 MPH, not 47 MPG.
