Heh, I've seen a friend do it on his I4 6. Anyway, I'd try contacting them to make sure they will bolt right up (though of course, you are correct, they should (As far as I know)).
I dont know if it would be a DIRECT bolt on, didn't the stretch the frame and move the mounting brackets for the exhaust system? Either way, I have some pictures of the underside -- pictures aren't measurements, however. Still think they would be a completely insane thing to attempt in the backyard, however.
If you ever want to see something really amusing, put a V6 and an I4 side by side and look at how much space there is in the I4 engine bay (well, on the 6 anyway - I assume on the Fusion as well).
See .. (as I said with excrutiating detail in another post) engineering is a balancing of goals. Having higher horse power numbers is something car companies really want. So if headers would do this much good they would already have them on the car .. except that Ford decided doing so would ... ??
(Cynical Answer :: They wanted room to make a cheap SVT version)

Ford has to pass federal emission and sound laws before putting a car into production. Headers from the factory would cause the car to fail both of those tests. Headers increase exhaust flow which increase's horsepower and lowering exhuast backpressure.
Are headers worth it? Fuck yes
Look what ford gives us from the factory. Do you think that's good for power production?
I count 2 pups cats and 2 main cats. 4 cat converters in all.
Think about headers being an atheletes lungs and what we have being a chain smokers. That said, until I hear some sound clips from a 2.3 with a header, I won't be getting one. 6's sound pretty good opened up but 4 bangers are hit and miss. Some sound great, others (Honda) sound horrible.

Alittle update from CPE about the headers. They WILL fit a fusion BUT you have to change to an 05 Mazda 6 Oil pan and pickup. :klavergreg:
Car part.com has 05 Oil pans for 100 dollars.

Too much work for ya swoop?
Hah, heck yeah -- not to mention warranty [possible] issues, ya know? But...Ford is Mazda, Mazda is Ford, but I am sure they would screw me anyway they could...right? Haha.
Good Lord!! :? that is off a v6? I see why we will end changing the exhaust system! For cats? What kinda of exhaust Are you running now Utohcop? Now I see wy it can cost over 500$

Stocker right now. Waiting for summit racing to stock the Magnaflow system or i may just go with a custom borla system. 600 Dollars for a catback is bullshit.

So .. if the OEM system was primarily to reduce emissions does that mean the car will no longer pass inspection?
I believe those headers will pass the sniffer but the visual inspection would be a problem.

Well i'm taking the plunge. I'm ordering a set along with the MAF kit. A 40 wheel horsepower increase with Headers/Maf would be great.
Let us know how it works out! Would be great if you could dyno!
I think the Fusion has better HP than then Mazda-6, yes? So you might not see as much as 40 more.
Also the curve only starts at 3,500, and it HINTS that your torque/hp below 3000 is lower than stock. Most of my acceleration runs (day to day driving) go from 2000 to 3500, so I worry I would see less performaance with this kit on the car.
