Recently was gifted a 2008 ford fusion with the 2.3 for an old debt. The owner changed the oil back in january and doesnt really travel much besides to work. When i first started the vehicle it started fine and sounded strong until i put it in reverse and it made a low chatter more like a rattle sounded like it came from the engine bay but hard to tell as i was alone. ive observed when shifted to park or neutral the noise seems to go away. doesnt do it when driving or accelerating but when stopped and foot on brake. also the rpms get really low almost 2-300 but never really sputters or dies. can rev the engine to about 1200 and it only makes sound between 3-500 rpms and quits. Checked oil and it was in safe zone so topped it off and the water as well. just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if its safe to continue driving 2 hours away for sons dr appointments. thanks in advance
