K&N just called to tell me that hey just finished the CAI system for the V6 Fusion and they are shipping me one (beacuse they used my car to develop it) today.

They said I should have it by next week.

I will take pictures of the unboxing and of it installed when I get it...

Is it a true CAI -- filter resides down in the bumper. Or, is it a WAI -- filter resides in the engine bay? Regardless, I'm happy to hear we are now starting to see more choices in the marketplace.

Post photos once you get it!!

It's probably just a polished air intake like they sell for most vehicles. Isn't K&N out of Corona, CA or somewhere like that?

I think since it is based off of the Mazda 6 CAI, it will look like this, but with a different MAF housing.
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=69-6026TS

With these instruction for installation
http://www.kandn.com/instructions/69-6026.pdf

When I took my car in (6 months ago or so) they tried to install the Maza 6 CAI in my car, but realized the MAF housing was completeley different.

I think they just modified the housing and used that base unit. If that is the case, the filter will be mounted where the air silencer was and it will be a true CAI. Unlike the Steeda kit that sits in the engine bay and sucks hot air.

Hope it looks like the 6 kit, I will be glad I didnt piss my money away on that ugly Steeda kit.

Best part it is FREEEEEEEE!!!!!

If it does look like the ugly Steeda kit, who cares, its FREEEEEEE!!!!

No need to bash the Steeda unit at all, they were the first to develop something / anything for the Fusion, as far as I see it they pave the way for whats to come. Did they mention the gain numbers to you or any other useful information that we could use here?

No specs were discussed...

The lady just asked me if I had gotten one yet and I told her I did not. She asked if I wanted to come down and have one put on or if I wanted it shipped to me. I opted for them to ship it to me.

If it went out today or early tomorrow, I should see it Monday.

I will snap some shots from my new HTC S710 and maybe shoot some video as soon as I can tear the box open.

I dont mean to diss Steeda, it is just way to much money for what it does. To be honest, if it does end up being the same style as the Steeda, I may not even install it and just sell it.

Well if it's anything like the i4 intake they make then it will be the short kind.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=69-3514TTK

They say it makes 6.05 more at 4200rpm. Also note that at least for the i4 it says NOT CARB(smog) exempt.

So, K&N has made an intake for the I4 also? I didn't know that. I wonder what is the price. I guess I will check O'Reiley this weekend.

Granted, that is on their own website, so that's probably just MSRP. However, I can't see getting it for much less than $300 anywhere else. I'd stick with the Steeda as it looks to do the exact same thing (if the K&N picture is accurate).

 K & N, in the world of business, the thing that drives the industry is competition. :atl: $300 for the I4 intake for a 6 HP gain when Steeda sells it for $189, that is like putting a 100 lb. man out of shape against a WWF contender weighing 260 or so. That intake better do more than what is stated in the item description. And WTF, from the pic, it is all black with no chrome trimmings like the Steeda intake to make your engine look good!! Maybe there is a typo. Maybe that one is for the 6 cyl.?

K&N's intake systems are ALWAYS more expensive than the competition. Their quality is usually second to none, though. However, it's just an intake. If I were buying a more important part of the car, I might be willing to pay 30-50% more for said quality.
