Don’t let the "concept" moniker fool you: this is Jaguar’s next XK8. The first all-new Jaguar to come from the hand of former Aston Martin design director Ian Callum, the Advanced Lightweight Coupe is a strong and elegant piece of work. The feline proportions and strong rear fenderlines are Callum trademarks. While the glinting headlights and ovoid grille are Jaguar trademark design cues, the rear design is a new design language for the marque, including the return of a rear hatchback, a la the E-Type of the 1960s and early 1970s. The front and rear fascias will be toned down a bit, but this design study otherwise gives a clear view of next-gen production XK that will come to market in 2006. Like the XJ sedans, the next XK will make use of aluminum intensive construction for both chassis and body panels. Revised versions of Jaguar’s naturally aspirated and supercharged V-8 engines, estimated at 320 and over 400 horsepower respectively, will power the new coupe and convertible. Clearly among the stars of the Detroit show, the ALC shows that Jag isn’t going down with out a fight. Expect pricing to increase 5-10% over current levels. Click here to view a full photo gallery.
