I bought my car off of the dealer's lot and had it has dealer installed silver pin striping on the side. They do this with all of their cars on the lot. It doesn't look too bad on black, but at the same time it doesn't exactly look that great either. I think I would like to remove it. It is the vinyl sticky tape kind. I know the first time I wax my car, I will want it gone since it is a PITA to get all of the wax out from the tape edges.

How should I go about removing it? Find an edge and peel it off? I want to get it off before it becomes too permanent.

Thanks!

Hey Mike, when you get ready just use a hair dryer on high and go over the area to get the metal warm and soften the vinyl tape and the adhesive. Pick and edge and pull off at a sharp angle, and keep a little heat on it with the dryer when pulling it off. There will be some adhesive left over and you can remove that an enamel reducer on a soft cloth and just work the area. You will need to re-polish afterwards and maybe some Mequires polishing compound too. If the stripe has been there for a while there has been some dulling of the clear due to washing and dirt so there will be a protected paint under the tape. Sort of a Phantom stripe.

Thanks Marc, will have to give that a try soon. I have only had my car since mid-April, so hopefully they will pull off without too much trouble. I will probably take a clay bar to my car before too long anyway.

The dealer I purchased my car from put their vinyl logo decal on my car even though I told them I didn't want it. Luckily they put it on after they had waxed the car so when I got home I noticed the edges coming up and it came off really easy.

those vinyl ones are the easiest to get off.  hair dryer on high or even sitting in the sun on a hot day, they peel right off.  mine was kind of a bubble plastic tag that popped right off on a hot day.
