I have to change my transmission fluid entirely, and I keep hearing conflicting numbers, is it 5.9 quarts? 7.1? this is a 2006 Fusion

7 quarts is the "dry fill" amount. When you drain it you cannot get all of the fluid out of the torque converter, cooler, or all the passageways. It has been awhile since I have done an FNR5 but I think I bought 6 quarts and used 5 (4 full and partial of the fifth).

Hi PH. How are you performing this fluid change? As bangster mentioned, draining the transmission pan alone will not remove all the fluid.

The correct dry fill or flush/fill amount and the correct/required transmission fluid specification is listed in your Owners Manual in the Maintenance and Specifications section. If it were my vehicle, I would have the transmission professionally/properly flushed and filled, as opposed to a pan drain and partial refill.
