It was brief but I have to say I was happy  :D at how smooth and quiet my Fusion was. I'm also glad my local tire shop (Discount Tire) balanced my 16" Conti's very well when they mounted 'em on my SE alloys. I recently retorqued the wheels' lugs to the factory spec (100 ft-lbs) and have the 34 psi in the tires.

Yes, road conditions were safe - no other cars around.

Only up to 90????? :? Please!!!!!!!! Mine was up to 110 on the way home from the dealership the day I bought it. I had to see what it could do. Now I'm not too proud to say that I was scared (a little). Not too bad though. Very smooth ride. This is a really nice car. I have the Tungsten Silver SEL, black leather interior. Mine is an automatic. Very Pretty!!!! Does yours get good gas mileage? My best is only 22.9 mpg.

90 was plenty. MPG so far is about 27.5. When it's broken in and I can drive easy at a steady RPM I expect to get 30+ MPG.

I have the v6 and I was getting 28mpg on a 300 mile trip last week. I didn't think that was too bad considering its not even broken in!

I had to put my car in the shop because my 5 year old opened the back door and the inside handle broke in half. My MPG was 22.9 when I took it in and when I picked it up 3 days later, I pulled out of the dealership and I watched it drop all the way to 21.9 and i was on the interstate for half an hour non stop and it still dropped. WTF? I don't understand what happened in 3 days of sitting on a lot that made my MPG drop like that. Anyone have any clue???

JenJen,

How are you arriving at this small 1 MPG loss? The best MPG calculation method, IMO, is to fill up at the same gas station, at the same pump, on the same side of that pump, facing the same direction. Why? To get the pump nozzle to click off at the same point each time you fill up. Then divide miles by gallons. Have you checked your tire pressure? Ford recommends 34 PSI, which is what I run and I coast pretty damn well with my manual trans in neutral. Have you had the oil changed yet? If so are you sure they used a name brand 5W20 or 0W20? I know some oil change places will use 10W40 or 20W50 just to get rid of old stock.

FYI: Yes, Mobil 1 0W20 is fine to use and is also an excellent oil. From the Mobil 1 website:

Mobil 1 0W-20 not only meets the requirements of manufacturers recommending 5W-20, but it also provides superior low-temperature protection and the exceptional performance of a fully synthetic motor oil.

Mobil 1 0W-20 meets:

ILSAC GF-4 energy conserving viscosity that flows quickly during cold starts.

I have changed my oil 3 times already and I check my tire pressure every Sunday like clockwork. I know it's not alot from 21.9 to 22.9 but it's been sitting on 22.9 for a month and then all of a sudden it drops. And when gas is 2.80 a gallon, every little bit helps. I was just wondering what would make it drop. I have never had a car that had a screen that told me anything. So this is all new to me. And I know the car is broken in because Ive only had it for 6 months and I have put 12,500 miles on it. So I was just wondering!!! This is all new to me. My last car was a 1996 Dodge Avenger and it was nothing like this car. It didn't have many options on it at all and it was a piece of crap. :?

Sounds like your going by your digital dash readout. I don't have one (I couldn't see spending the extra coin on the SE) and just use the gas pump as my guide. As to what might drop your MPG like that is tough to figure out, especialy when no codes are being thrown. If you have your dealer check it out and they find something please let us know what it is.

I've seen this before and I'm not sure .. seems to fix its-self ..

Next time you get on the freeway, upto speed, cruise control on, reset the MPG. Be sure its reading about 29. You may have to reset it twice to get it to work .. not sure why but sometimes when you reset, it will read high and fall, other times it will read low and rise.

How in the crap is everyone getting their gas mileage to be so high? Some people say theirs is over 30. I can't get mine to break 23 yet. Do you people drive interstates all the time? And you do you have a manual or V6?

All it took for me is the Air box resonator removal, K&N air filer replacement, and fuel injection fluid.... and I'm still at my 31mpg... V6.

Did you order your K&N filter online or get it from a parts store? I've looked at them on the K&N site and at some of the parts store sites and there's up to a $30 difference in price. Alot of people said they bought theirs online but it took 6 weeks to get it. I don't want to wait that long to get. I tried what one guy said and reset my MPG on my screen. It went to 0 then went all the way up to 37.9 then finally settled on 22.9, which is where its been for a month now so im guessing thats where its gonna stay. I will have to get a filter and try that. Alot of people said they saw an immediate difference.

I just don't see how a K&N panel replacement filter (oiled cotton gauze) will improve MPG. The very minor increase in CFM might  be responsible for a 2 HP gain at 6,500 RPM but part throttle cruising uses very little air. There is a reason AEM and Amsoil recently introduced washable, oil-free cone filters. There is a market for them, primarily due the debate over the filtering efficiency of oiled cotton gauze. I won't use one in daily driver - not worth the risk, especially with these beauties out now:

You're findings of 31mpg is using the digital readout or dividing miles traveled by gallons consumed?

My average mpg digital readout is typically 2-3 mpg off to the positive side.... Either that or my calculator is broke:)
