Well heres what happened:
I was driving behind this chevy tracker thats around '00 in the middle lane of the four lanes on 84 yesterday around 10Am going to sturbridge mass...and all of a sudden the under carriage (A HUGE piece of flat metal(?) I want to say) of that chevy FLEW up and HIT my car. The only damage is the cracked middle grill, and the Ford emblem now moves and its chrome and blue paint is chipped. Ther is a deep nic on the paint RIGHT near my right head light, but thats it. No hood or light damage.
I called the insurance and I made a police report...but the cop said it wasn't conisdered and accident, he asusmes that my insurance has to pay for it.............I got the liscense of the other car, but I didn't stop them on the highway since it was pretty dangerous...I'm going to the claim adjuster on Weds afternoon...
NEVER make a claim on your insurance unless you're so broke you can't afford a new grille. That ~$150 grille could add a couple hundred dollars a year to your insurance.
I agree, never make a claim on your insurance if you can afford to replace it yourself. Make some calls to dealerships, body shops, heck even get online once you find the grill part number. Looks like this just snaps in place, maybe a few screws..
Well wait a second, there are a few insurance companies out there that have accident forgiveness clauses. Meaning if you weren't at fault and haven't filed a claim in 'x' amount of time, you would be able to get the repair done via insurance without looking at any increased premiums.

the accident forgiveness isn't a given on every policy. It is a rider you need to apply for (no everyone can have it) and you have to pay extra for it.
Well, I went to the adjuster and all I have to say is F* that.
I'm just going to get the grill from somewhere else, and not put it on my insurance.
The total bill was 585 and some change, because when that thing hit my grill, it cracked the plastic strip that is in between the hood and the car in the front..so that needs to be replaced, and some other little plastic things need to be adjusted.
