Picked up the '13 Escape SEL with 1.6 EcoBoost/302a package and navigation yesterday. Ford still didn't get all the hard plastic out of the interior, but it's a lot better than the last generation. The seats look to be the same seats as the old... which means they should probably be better. 10way power driver (with memory!) and tilt/telescoping wheel make it easier to find a comfortable position. Interior smells exactly like the old ones did when new... which is different than other new Fords I've had. Wonder if Ford did that on purpose, because people that LOVED the old Escape (like my wife) immediately feel at home in the new one. The ride seems a bit less harsh, but that may be because I haven't increased the tire psi yet. Engine seems adequate for normal driving. The 'hands-free' power liftgate is a cool idea, but so far every time I've managed to make it open has taken several 'kicks'. Note that it hasn't opened at all several times. Anyway... I still think they'll sell all of 'em they can build once they start getting out there.

Much better quality pics on the 'gallery' portion of the FordVehicles website than I could ever put up. Plus it's dirty because it rained yesterday while we we picking it up, and the gigantic grasshoppers are out.

We got in it with 60 miles on the odometer and drove 60 or so more home and around over the next day. Probably half highway and half city stop and go... and the last I remember seeing on the display was 25.4. Which I think is pretty good for no break-in. In my Fusion and Mustang I saw a significant increase somewhere around 5K miles. I think I priced out a Murano and it got spendy really quick if you want leather.

That's why I believe she was also looking at the Rouge. The Murano is nice but we had a hard time understanding, and justifying, why the price went up for minor upgrades.

The escape has some really sharp color schemes which she and I both liked. What color did you go with?

Ruby red metallic (extra $395 color, FWIW) with 'medium light stone' leather. Which is the interior color that I think comes closest to the material they use on the pillars and headliner. But it's also the one that's going to show the dirt worst.

I think if we had built and ordered one, we would've gone with either the light greenish/blue 'mist' or sterling grey exterior and black interior.

I was very impressed that the dealer called my wife at work early Thursday morning before I'd even seen anything on CNN about it. I took it to them that afternoon and got my old Taurus back for a loaner. Then Ford (not the dealer) called TWICE on Friday to make sure we knew what was going on. So they've handled us well. Not so much some other folks apparently, as dealers seem a bit put out that Ford expects them to provide (and deliver) a loaner and CARRY the Escape back.
