Hi BlackI4se. It is a CD compartment. It is noted as such in the MKZ owner's manual, and quick Reference guide.
It will hold four or five retail CD cases, and probably 7 or so of the thinner CD-R cases.
Since I don't normally carry many CD's in my car, I use it to hold a small box of tissues, which I usually keep in the glove compartment anyway.

I know they're calling it a CD pocket but I'm think during the design phase it was probably to hold the dvd-rom drive for the nav system. I know that some other Lincoln Nav systems have a separate dvd drive to hold the map dvd.

Hi again Black I4. You probably would have had better luck if you searched for "glove compartment", or glove box. That is actually the proper term for it.

It's for an IPod.
The Ipod kit uses that slot as the place to stick your Ipod while driving down the road. You hook it to your Aux button and change songs with your steering wheel controls, so you don't ever need to go to the glove. And, when you leave the car, crooks can't see your Ipod sitting on your passenger seat because it's tucked inside your glove compartment.
