WOW. Great gas mileage on recent trip. 286 miles up and 286 miles back at 70-75 mph, almost all highway, almost always in cruise control. 29.2 MPG  I couldn't believe it,,, but I checked it twice. Divided miles traveled by gallons / fillup. The dash mpg indicator said I was getting 27.5 mpg and I would have been happy with that. I average about 26.5 mpg going to and from work each day,,, 60 miles each way, 50  miles of it highway with traffic. I'm pleased.
How are you guys doing???

6 Cyl SE with 3400 miles on it.

I only have 220 miles on the odo, but I've only been averaging 15.5-16 mpg.....90% city during the week, mostly highways on the weekends.

I'm praying it gets better!!

Highway mileage in the upper 24's (travelling 75 to 80) back and forth to work - some surface streets but not much.

City mileage around town 21.

SEL V-6 with 5000 miles.

Frankly, can't stay off the gas pedal when I'm on the road alone - it's so much fun!

Well .. there are Streets, and there is CITY! :)

Depending on the route I take, and the time of day .. I can do really good or really bad off the freeway.

What I'm really saying is .. if your streets are mostly stop free your golden .. if however .. there is a stoplight every block, and you cathch every one .. you'll be lucky to see 20mpg! ;-)

Well, I would agree with that, since at a lower speed of travel you have less wind resistance as well as engine RPM's. Usually, to me at least, "city" or "streets" means stop and go. Oh well.

Update...Fusion SEL V6..She just turned 1k miles today, and mileage is up from 15 to 19 mpgs. I'm still a little worried though. Round trip for church is 50 miles, well, 60 today....The car was on full when I left this morning, and now I've used 1/4 of a tank for just 60 miles!

PLEASE tell me it should get better!!!!!

31.1 as of today. I'm not easy with it either.

I still don't understand how you are getting 31.1 mpg. I have the powertrain as you and I can't that driving straight highway.

Are you at idle that high? Or did you just start it?

Last week I pulled down 28.7 MPG (60% hwy/40% city). I use the miles traveled/gallons used calculation.

ColdFusion,

Let us know what your MPG is when measure miles traveled/gallons used. Are your tires around the Ford recommended 34 PSI? Unless you have a lead foot it sounds like you should take it back the dealer and have 'em check it out. You should be getting at least 24 MPG on the hwy.

Actually, when I measured the manual way, I got around 18 mpg's. I haven't checked the tires since I haven't even had the car a month...got it fresh off of the truck.

I mainly do my highway driving on Saturday/Sunday..during the week it's city stop and go driving. At least it improved from 15 mpg I was getting when I first got it, but still!

Thanks for the tips, I'll check everything tomorrow.

Aren't you comparing your 4 cylinder to a V6? The 4's tend to knock down 3-4 mpg better in some conditions, from what I have read here.

Showtime: Where are you running your air pressure?

I think I'm at 38 for the rears and 37 for the front. It's been about 2 weeks so I need to check it again. That may have something to do with it. BTW, I went up to 31.2 today...after flogging it through some corners... :huh
