It is the V6. I do mostly city driving. The advertised mpg is 21 city, so 16 is a pretty significant difference.

I don't really care, I don't normally pay attention to things like this, but I do wonder if my experience is similar to others with the V6.

Are you basing this on the message center display? Did you reset it when it was new? There is some sort of a built in zero that will pull down the average unless you reset it. I can usually average 23-24MPG in mixed city/highway driving.

Do you have the V6 or I4?  Regardless, it's low... but if you have the V6, and do a lot of city driving, it isn't that low (judging from Mazda6 experience).  It should get better over time, too.
[/quote] I'm a city driver and I'm getting 21.8 with the v6...

Actually the computer calculations are very accurate nowadays. I had a Lincoln LS and several people compared the computer to actuals and it was normally within 1 mpg.

The 3.0 Duratec is notorious for taking a while to break in. Mileage (and power) should improve a lot after a few thousand miles.

I've had mine for a couple days and have over 300miles on it already. The computer is consistantly between 26-28 with backroads driving. This is in <32 deg temperatures. I also reset the computer. It's a 2.3 5 speed. I seem to have the best mileage on here, maybe I have a gas mileage freak. I'm going skiing tomorrow so that's 4 hours round trip of highway driving, I'm hoping to get into the 29-30 range.

I have a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL with a 3.0L V6 Engine with Vortex Fuel Maximizer, which was purchase in mid November 2005.

I was getting 17-21.2 MPG at start because I was breaking-in the engine at 25-55MPH (13 to 168 miles on odometer) driving from home to work. At +170 miles on odometer, I picked-up the speed to 65 MPH getting 21-24.5 MPG. On Thanksgiving week I took the Fusion to Pahrump, NV (60-miles NW of Las Vegas, Nevada) put +600-miles on the car on that trip, with speeds of 60-75MPH getting 25-28.4 MPG. I did notice on the way back I was getting excellent fuel cosumption, 27-29.7 MPG. I have photos but they ain't that great, because I took-them with a cellphone camera and the sun was hitting the dash. As of today I have 783 miles on the Fusion. Getting excellent fuel cosumption. :klavergreg:

I hope it gets better when it breaks in. I have 1450 miles now on my SEL V6, using tank to tank calculation yesterday (22.4 average mpg),
that's 90% E'way driving. If I reset the dash readout when I get on the E'way & check mpg's when I get off E'way(for 20 miles, 30degee air temp), the car will get 27.8 to 28.4mpg, although I did get a reading of 31.3mpg when weather was better.                                           All city driving would SUCK (gas). 8)    p.s. love the car, but can't keep black clean in MI.

Well, my old car did about 18mpg.
The Fusion is averaging 28mpg.
All highway, I drive 150 miles a day, so this is a great improvment from what I used to have.

I'm getting around 28 with the 2.3 I4. I'm about half highway and half city, with around 1500 miles. I'm real happy my old car was around 20. The last time I filled up I came real close to 500 miles till empty, and with 50 mile commute (both ways) to work its nice not having to fill up during the week.
