Since I purchased my Fusion S back in January of '06, I've been disappointed that the Fusion doesn't have side-facing turn signals, i.e. when you view the fusion from the side (as it is viewed at just about any intersection) there's no way to tell whether it's turn signals are activated, as those in the headlights face forward and those in the tail face rearward.

(I know the turn signals are 'somewhat' viewable from the side, but the markers flashing would, I think, greatly improve visibility as to the drivers' intent to turn to opposing traffic).

Here's my thought:

Does anyone know of a way to work it so that the front fender side marker lights can be tied into the turn signals so that when the turn signals are activated, the side markers flash as well?

Is this do-able, and if so has anyone here already done it and can share their experience/knowledge?

(Currently the side markers do not flash with the turn signals, leaving the car with a, I feel, hazerdous handicap).

If the above isn't possible, does anyone know of aftermarket side marker turn signals (such as on this Fusion in the UK).

(Note: See pages 2 & 3 of the above link for what I'm speaking of).

Would like to connect the side markers to the turn signals, but if not possible, an aftermarket (ala link above) will work too.

Any assistance / pointing in the right direction (i.e. web sites, sources, etc.) would be appreciated.

(I'm not a 'wiring' person, however I have a family member who is. - Just need something to 'get me started').  :)

Thanks!  :)

First of all... good thinking.. plus it would give it a nice "european" look...
Now you could wire the side markers to the front turning signals... your PROBLEM that you might have to look into... is the sensor that is connected to the front lights... you see... there is a sensor on the Fusionthat wouldn't let me connect my fog lights fromt the head light so they would be on every time that headlights are on... it would shut down both the head light and the fog light alltogether.
NOw I don't know if the same sensor stands on the turning, but its worth a shot... good luck.

I know that on my Ranger, there wasn't a side blinking marker. What I did, was run the ground from the side marker that didn't blink to the hot on the turn-signal, and when the turn-signal was lit, the side marker was off, and it would turn on when the turn signal light would go off.

That could be an easy way to do it.

You could add after market repeater lights if you wanted.

Would not look stock though. I wish that the DOT would require them like most other countries.

I'm the one with the fusion in the UK. They just tapped into the wiring and slapped the sidemarkers on the side, they stick on with foam tape. They do the same thing to all the US spec cars around here. But now that I already have the wiring there, I'm looking to add permanent sidemarkers before I leave the country. I remember seeing some on ebay a while back that really caught my attention. They weren't the normal oval type that go on the fender though. It was a strip of flexible LED's that you stick on your mirror. Looks more like the sidemarkers on mercedes and VW's. I was thinking of getting those since they would look good on the lower part of our mirrors that is plastic and not painted. Would be a nice touch of class and safer too.
