I've decided to not go for the Pioneer head unit that I was going to get for Navigation purposes. Instead, I'm going to get ahead and make a custom car computer. More economical for me, and more fun to do. Our dash, especially the Piano Black, is just screaming to be tinkered with, and I think with some good plastic work, fiberglassing, and bondoing, I can make it look factory.

Also, I'll be using the Front End, Road Runner, found over at MP3car.com, and have been working on a skin for that program for our vehicles. I'll post a picture today of the main menu screen that I have created.

Any others interested in going into the carputer world?

Yes, I've looked into for several weeks. If you go with a 7" screen, you shouldn't have to do any fabricating. Check out this thread from MP3Car.com .

It's a 2005 Mustang, but the radio's are just about identical. This only requires a Mechatroniks Kit and a double din adapter from Metra. Very clean looking install. Of course I haven't torn mine apart yet to see how cramped it is in there for space.
