What is the story behind the 3.4L V8 SHO engine? Was it simply a 2.5L V6 with 2 extra cylinders and Yamaha heads? I recall reading 10 years ago that it was based upon V6 architecture and had counter-rotating shafts to balance the engine harmonics. The SHO V8 was probably the most misunderstood Ford engine ever produced, and the shortest lived. Too bad they didn't keep around for use in more FWD vehicles. Could you imagine an SVT Contour V8 instead of the 200hp 2.5 that they came out with! Or even a 3.4 Fusion V8 with hp bumped up to 260 or so. I don't think Ford quite knew what to do with that engine.
