My question is if anyone out there has attempted to alter their fog lights so that they will stay on during both low and high beams. I seem to recall this being a matter of relays or something along that line, and I know that some guys on an Explorer discussion board were successful in rigging this up. Has anyone tried to do this with a Fusion?

I searched for a previous thread on this topic but could not find one. If there is, I would be happy to post this there instead of here and I apologize for a duplicate thread. I know that's annoying. Somebody please enlighten me....

I have accomplished this on both my Rangers, my parents Sport Trac, and my previous SVT Focus and my sisters Focus -- there HAS to be a way. I know how to figure it out, but I don't have the wiriing guide, or schematic.

So how did you do it the times that you have done it before? The only way I have seen it done is when you mess with the headlight relays by creating a homemade jumper of some kind. The headlight relays look like this:

A homemade jumper would look something like this:

Is this what you have done in the past? If not, what did you do; and if so, are you interested in figuring it out again? Anyone else?

The method that you show above is what worked for the Focus's that I have had.

For the Ranger/Explorer/Sport Trac platform -- one of the relays actually, all you had to do was bend a pin on the relay so that is DIDN'T make contact in the board.

I can look at it, but I'll be without the car for a week. I'm going on a much needed vacation! :klavergreg:

Well, enjoy your vacation, but don't forget to get back to us on that issue when you can (if you don't mind, of course). Also, anyone else out there with any knowledge on the matter, please feel free to contribute to the conversation at any time.

I've kept this in mind, but I haven't had the time between work and play. I know, I need to get with some of my electrical guru's and figure it out.

Correct me if im wrong,
but don't the low beams stay on if you turn the high beams? do they not work together at the same time?

Keeping that in mind... if to get a set of fog lights and wire them to the same wires that lead to the low beams, won't that solve the problem?

I would like for the driving lights to stay on with the high beams. This was a simple thing to do in other vehicles such as the contour I had and in the sport trac I had. Just want to be able to do it without hacking up the wiring.

True that the low's stay on with the high's. We are wanting the fog's to stay on with the high's and low's.

don't mean to be the wet rag...

but if I've heard it is illegal, not sure stateside, to have the highbeams and the fogs on at the same time. I guess they'll worried you'll blind any on-coming traffic.

Just thought you might want to check with your state regulations, before the switch, no sense in getting a senseless ticket, eh?

I have never had a problem here in PA in 10 years. Other states may be an issue.

Well, the way I see it is that if you have your highbeams on while an oncoming police officer is coming at you, you deserve it. I always dim my lights... Besides -- to ME, I feel that there are more severe law-breakers out there that need to be punished -- not me for wanting to see the road.

More than this I would prefer if the foglights would just "turn on" automatically any time the light switch is at or above the marker light postion..  it is a PIA to pull that knob out every time

My SEL has the automatic lamps...
I've got mine pulled, in the automatic position. I've been assuming both are on when the lights come on.
I'll have to check that.

I changed out my aftermarket lights with the stockers and looked into this wiring and stuff.

It's not as easy to do/think about as it was in the Ranger. I think we may need to way a while until we can get some wiring diagrams for the headlights.
