Just found out the Focus ST is over 3200 lbs and has electric power steering. No longer interested.

Totally worth the tradeoff. The electric power steering is actually really cool, it increases sensitivity for city driving so you don't turn the wheel as much and it decreases it on the freeway so the car is not as touchy. As for the weight, w/e, its got TONS of gadgets on it and its about the same as the Fusion with an extra 100 hp tacked on. Should be a great car regardless. You will probably not find a car today that's affordable that doesn't have a little bloat in it. Heck even your Miatas are a chunky 2447lbs. So for twice the car and only weighing 3200lbs isn't too bad by me.

I just don't see how adding 200 lbs makes it a sportier car. At that point, I'd rather have a 3 door Focus SVT. It's the same reason I think the Fusion's we have/had are sportier than a Fusion Sport.

I'm with Ace that the car is too fat, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me. You can "dial out" some of the fat with the right gearing (see BMW) and the extra weight keeps the car more stable at high-speeds. If it drives as good as "they" say, I would definitely consider it.

If the RS comes, there would be no question.

You can never dial out the fat! You can compensate for the extra weight slowing down your forward acceleration, but the braking and cornering will always be worse with more weight!

I want to like this car, and I will be excited to drive it but I just dont like how the current focus feels. (in one now for a loaner)
It just feels odd. Maybe just because I am tall and Im used to a bigger car but hell the fusion drives better than what im in.
Who knows this may blow all the fish out of the water but idk if I am on board.
Sad to say.

I can tell you one thing, I have built a few of them at my time at the plant and they are incredible! I talked to someone who drove em off the line and he said it was by far one of the most surprising cars he has ever driven. I really couldn't care less about how heavy it is, if its blowing this many people out of the water on their first drives and full reviews, its got to be one heck of a car.

Jalopnik got a hold of the ST, here is the review:
http://jalopnik.com/5922133/ford-focus-st-the-jalopnik-review?tag=testdrive

For you Adam:
The things I didn't care for when I first drove the car slowly started to grow on me. The electronic torque steer compensation is the best example of this. The car senses torque steer and feeds power into the rack turning it the other way to offset the pulling of the wheel. It's way more complicated than that but you get the idea. At first I was fighting it a little. I could see the slope of the road and knew full throttle would pull me down there and I compensated.

But so did the computer so I ended up overcompensating. This drove me nuts at first. But by the end I was driving really fast grabbing gears and releasing the clutch at full throttle with just one hand on the wheel because I knew it wouldn't get yanked away from me. The purists can complain about the electronic aids. I did, too. Then I drove another turbo front-wheel drive car the next day and was super annoyed by the torque steer.
EDIT: Wow, just finished reading, this car is gonna be sick, if a McLaren MP4 only got a 85/100 on the same scale as the ST and the ST got a 69/100 this car must be SICK! It only scored 16 points under a friggin' supercar! And it sounds like all the electronic nannies are no longer nannies but now are actually tools to make you go faster!! SWEET!!!
