FMVperformance.com would like to thank all its members for contributing to making this site great. As it has grown, we have started smacking up against the realistic limits of the current software we use (phpBB). At this point, it has become horrendously inefficient, and that is why you have seen so many times when the sites are slow lately. In addition, security issues with the software have made it increasingly hard to keep the site safe.

To fix all this, on Sunday June 19 we will be converting all FMVperformance sites to Simple Machines Forum (simplemachines.org). This software is more efficient and has a better feature set and more security than the current software we use.

The conversion process will take several hours, at the very least. At worst, it should be done by the end of the day - we fully intend on having the site back online by Monday, June 20, at the latest.

All posts & users will be preserved. The one exception to this is if you have a single quote in your name ( ' ) - then that will be removed from your name. Still, no information will be lost.

Once the conversion is done, if any problems are noticed, please report them.

For information during the downtime, carputermac.com and quickcobalt.com will remain online.

Many reasons (not the least of which is the excessive cost), but it was unanimously decided against. The final decision was between IPB and SMF, and SMF support has been exceedingly helpful, especially with the custom code we need to make our sites run.

Very nice... I look forward to seeing it up & running. I've webmastered several sites, but have yet to use / have any experience with SMF. Looks like it will be extremely similar to phpBB... right on.

Heh, I'm sure there will be some kinks that need to be ironed out. But, SMF has about 2x the features of phpBB, so there will be some learning involved by the users as well.

Anyway, we'll definitely be around to repair what we can and clear up any points of confusion.

Yeah this might turn out to be a lie... we're running into some major problems we didn't forsee now. So uh, stay tuned. I'm not really going to know if it's a go until Saturday, probably.
