On my Ford Focus, the turn-signal electronics were integrated into the hazard switch. It is an electronic flasher already. If installing an aftermarket unit, best to intercept the wires coming out of the steering column and run right into the new relay.

You can buy resistors to wire in near the bulbs you replace to achieve the same effect with much less effort.
Simply bridge the (major) power and ground.

Cost about $5 each.
