First Oil change will be at 5000...Will any Fusion owners use the Swill they call 5W-20 or will You use another Oil??

As for me it's Mobil 1 0w-30 this winter and 5w-30 in the summer. With 120K on my SHO using only Mobil 1, I swear

by it. I Also use the Mobil 1 Oil Filter. It's the Good Stuff.

I am planning my first oil change at 3000 and future ones at 5000. I have not decided if I will be using standard oil or synthetic yet.

The dealership that I bought the car from will do the oil changes for the life of the vehicle for $12 and they are located a few minutes from my house. I may just stay there as a matter of convienance.

First Oil Change Completed. 4,965miles. Question? The Original Oil Filter on My Fusion was Brand "X"
anybody else notice this. That was the only print on the Filter a little Black X on a White Filter.
Generic? Maybe, Doesn't look like a Motorcraft.

I am sure it was a factory only filter, mine had it too. SO did my Ranger and other Focus I bought new. It's different than a regular filter, if I remember correctly.

I did my first change on the 7th of this month at 2,440 miles. I'll do another at 6,000, then 10,000 and then start going every 5,000. That's been my usual increase and I've had great luck.

I went with the regular Motorcraft Synthetic Blend this time, and maybe next as well, just to be sure everything is kosher -- then I'll run the 5w-30 Mobil one.

yup, 5k is what the book says.

I would say, do what you feel you need to do.

I do mostly highway driving so here is my plan.

1st @ 3,000 (done)
2nd @ 6,000
3rd @ 10,000
4th @ 15,000

If I went to primarily city or hard driving I would switch to a 3k interval.

This is just me though...

my first is going to be friday 2-24-06 and will be at about 4k, 3950 or so at the dealer using motorcraft synthetic, i do some city and some freeway everyday, and i checked the oil at 1500, 2500, 3000, 3500 and 3755 and it was full and clear everytime. so I am pretty sure that 5k between is going to be ok

97Shomann - I had a '94 SHO, a '96 contour, a '01 Taurus SEL and an '03 Taurus 100th Anniv edition. My '06 Fusion SEL V-6 will get the same oil I've always used - Mobil 1.

I have used 0W Mobil 1 since I discovered it a few years ago and will continue to use it. I have used it summer and winter, because it has sufficient film strength to handle summer heat.

At about 5000 I will do the first change. It may be premature to put Mobil 1 in too early (I don't know what too early is, tho) at least until the rings seat and the engine gets broken in.

BTW I notice that my '03 Taurus had a more aggressive "tip in" than the Fusion - perhaps this will change when the engine is looser. The off-idle performance of the Taurus was excellent, although it ran out of breath quickly. The Fusion is definitely quicker, but doesn't seem to leap as quickly from a standing start as the Taurus.

Just changed the oil and filter at 3000 miles today. This is the first change on the I-4 Milan. Went back with the stock filter and Schaeffer 5w/20w Synthetic Blend Oil.
One note to all and no big one. I found one splash guard bolt in the drive way so when I was under the car, I tightened all them up along with re-installing the one that fell out. If this happens again, I will use some light duty lock tight on the bolts.
One more thing, before pouring the oil in the valve cover, put some rags around the the pour hole. If you
miss, the oil is very difficult to clean out of the nooks and cranies of the valve cover.
If you have questions about the oil, here's a link.

I went to AmsOil @ 500 miles, that oil is unbeleivable. It starts even easier on cold mornings now. $6 per quart is worth the protection you get with AmsOil. They recommend 7,000 intervals, but I think I'll run it 4-5,000.

Changed mine last week at 3240 miles. As I had mentioned on another post, the dip stick is crap for reading the level correctly. I may need to take a drive to the local Mazda Dealership and see if the Mazda 6 or 3 dip stick is any different. I did refill the engine back with Royal Purple 5w-20 , but the standard Oil filter cartrage has got to go. Just like the dip stick these things are real cheap crap, I just have this real uneasy feeling about running these in the engine and expecting everything is OK. Has anyone found or heard of an adaptor to use a spin on filter or better yet a remote filter system?

Well, there I go looking like a moron again, easy to do. Thanks Showtime for the link to replace the cartrage with a spin on. That looks to be the answer. Just shoot me. :hijacked:

i had mine at about 4980K I drove it a lot on the hwy so I guess if it would have been via street miles I would have changed it around 3k. The bad thing was that I had towait around 3hrs since they coul not get ahold of the filter? But it was free so I guess it was worth it?

First change at 3,500 .. at 3,000 the oil looked almost new. I did the first change early to get any metal parts out of the oil (yeah I guess the filter should do that) .. I'm gonna go at 4k each change till I get to 20k miles than go to the recommended 5k interval.

The 5w-20 oil seems to work well, it stays clear, and all that so I'm gonna stay with it.
