Washing my Fusion I noticed there is a clear piece of 'film' on the lower rear quarters, right behind the rear tires. Is this something just from the factory to protect that spot back there while the dealers have them or is this piece of film supposed to stay on??!! Check it out and tell me whatcha think. 8)

I don't have it, so I am sure that it comes off. I think it's there like the huge sheets on the hood and doors, so when the car is getting transported it won't get all nicked up. If it doesn't look horrid, I'd leave it on there.

Yes this is a 3m film protection in the rear bump, excellent detail

I left mine on cuz I figure it'll prevent stone chips. I started to pick at it when I first got the car, but realized it would probably leave a bigger mess on there with it off.

I noticed this very same plastic film when I purchased my car. It's located just behind the wheels on wheel well. I think it serves to protect against stone chips. It's translucent, and hardly noticeable, but mine is starting to peel away. I asked the service mgr about it and he said they can replace it, but generally after a year or so it will do 1 of 2 things- peel off again, or turn yellowish and discolored and you'll want it removed. I don't know yet what I'm going to do with it. BTW, my car was built in June 06 if that matters.
