I'd like to disable this. I won't be able to get to my owner's manual for a few days. Is this able to be turned off? If so, how?

Hi biggee. :wavey: What happened, you and your Owners Manual decide you need some time apart to think over the relationship :lmao: (just kidding)?

Assuming the procedure for the Milan/Fusion is the same as the MKZ's, here is the MKZ procedure copied and pasted from the Manual:

Deactivating/activating perimeter lamps illuminated entry
You may enable/disable this feature by having your vehicle serviced by
your authorized dealer.
You may also perform the following power door lock sequence to
enable/disable the perimeter lamps feature. Note: Before starting, ensure
the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete Steps 1–5 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, wait a
minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.
1. Place the key in the ignition and
turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)
position.
2. Press the power door unlock
control on the door panel three
times.
3. Turn the ignition from the 3
(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK)
position.
4. Press the power door unlock control on the door panel three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp
one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.
6. Press the power door unlock control twice within 5 seconds. Note:
The horn will chirp once to indicate the perimeter lighting feature has
been deactivated. The horn will chirp once and honk once (one short
and one long) to indicate the perimeter lighting feature has been
activated.
7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position to exit the procedure.
Note: The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

And not sure if you have this website saved (or in case the MKZ procedure does not work), but in the future if you can not get to your Manual but have computer access, it can come in handy. You can download your Owners Manual to your computer in PDF form: www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owners_manuals/default.asp

Just fill in the drop down boxes, and click "Submit". Then click on "Owner Guide". You can also download your Warranty and Scheduled Maintenance Guides.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Re: Headlamps turn on when unlocking car

Thanks BBF. I have finals for my EMT-B class this week so Mon-Weds I come home from work, change, and then leave the house right away. I just won't be in my car for a while (I drive my work truck all over) so I figured I'd ask and this way but Thursday I'd have the answer. :) Thanks again.

bbf saves the day. I just did it on both the Fusions. So it works on the 2010's too. I've always hated this "feature" especially with the HID's.

So it just stays blacked out? Or does it just not turn on the headlights?

Answered my own question. I just did it and it stays completely black. Not really what I'm looking for. I want some kind of notification that it's unlocked... Just not the headlights.

Hi guys. :wavey: Sorry, but it is all or nothing unless you want to use your vehicles as guinea pigs and perform elective electrical surgery. :eek4:

These things are controlled through the SJB (Smart Junction Box), and fooling with them is not as easy as it was in the past on less complicated vehicles.

Just my opinion, but I would advise against that strategy and live with one of the two choices, on or off. :wiggle:

Good luck.

Do you have auto lights. if so you can adjust how long those stay on or not on at all. the interior lights will still light up. It is in the manual. i adjusted mine. i will see if i can get what page out of my manual on lunch.

i am only aware of being able to adjust the headlights if you have the Autolights FYI. i will still check the manual though just to double verify.

I put in HIDs in my '10 sport and hate that the come on whenever I used the remote. However, I do like the puddle lights. From what I am reading, doing the procedure will just kill the headlights but leave the puddle lights alone? Is that correct?
