Hello, engine is slated for today :), if the the tech who's doing doesn't go home sick :? he said he wasn't feeling well, yeah whatever suck it up sunshine. As soon as its in I will post the outcome. I am a little leery about having my engine ripped out, thats almost asking for trouble, IE: scratches, dings, shit not hooked up right not to mention the new engine, is it any better?, time will tell

Cheers

The engine is being replaced because of a very loud ticking noise, louder than usual and louder than what is being reported with some of the other 3.0 litre engines. I had the TSB for the ticking done twice and lifters were also replaced to no avail. Ford engineering has decided to replace the engine assy with a new long block. The same engine will be going in. No one here at this dealer has replaced a Fusion engine before so I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping they don't f**k anything up. It's a real pisser having to go through this already.

Update, engine in and running as we speak. The tech just finished burping air from the cooling system , the engine has been running for about 30 minutes now and there has been no engine ticking yet!. The road test is still to come so I will report back after I have had a chance to see how things are going. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get out of this engine R/R unscathed (-:

Cheers for now, :)

Well I've had her out and about and so far so good :), I'll know more on a cold start, but she's got lots of power, I've been driving a 06 Taurus while I was waiting for my car and I gota tell ya what a freaking difference between them. The Taurus felt gutless and so much less responsive than the Fusion. Glad to be back in the saddle.

If I do hear anymore noise I think I'll just run er till she drops or at least until my 5/100 PT warranty gets close to expiring. :)

Cheers for now

Ya, please let us know what was wrong with your old engine. The Duratec V6 is generally considered to be bullet proof. I have one in my '02 Escape. Aside from having to clean (as in scrub) the throttle body at 30k it's been fantastic - smooth, quiet, torquey, 25 MPG on roadtrips and no fluid leaks or consumption.  :D

Well another update on the new engine. It appears now (don't ask me how) that the torque steer I had previously is now gone> I had noticeable torque steer before the engine was replaced and now its gone, not sure how thats possible, not complaining , I don't miss it :) I'll have to investigate this as to why.

Cheers

FWIW:

My engine developed some loud ticking over a few weeks, just when idling and warmed up. I thought it was deposits making a valve or two stick so I ran a couple of cans of intake valve cleaner through her and lo and behold, the noise is gone! It's really quiet now.

So I need to watch what kind of fuel I'm using and stop gunking up my valvetrain. Those new engines are really tight, even after "breaking in." I currently have less than 8k on the clock.

That is very interesting, your loud ticking sounded very similar to mine in circumstance, I don't know why Ford Engineering would not have thought of running a cleaner through? rather than replacing lifters then the engine.

Thanks

Another thing I noticed is that if I "goosed" the engine the noise would go away for a while. It would return after about a minute or so of normal idling. That's why I thought I had something sticking in there... A bad engine component usually gets louder with increasing RPM, not quieter? I figure I must've gotten a bad batch of gas somewhere.

Hi, yes the engine is running nicely, it is not however completely quite as I was hoping. There is still a ticking noise, much quiter though so I can live with that. Maybe redoing the TSB for the ticking on this enignw will help, we'll see. I'm resigned to the fact that these 3.0 ltr's are just noisey period but that vry loud ticking is gone.

Cheers
