Anyone ever thought of doing this for car video: Instead of getting a new head unit, what about getting a 7" monitor and mounting it inside the dashboard compartment? It could also be mounted in such a way that you will be able to close an open the compartment with ease. You could by one of those cheap portable dvd players ~$100 and mount that in your gloxe box and hook the video out to the 7" lcd. Like me, I already have the pxdx2 for my aux so hooking up the audio is real easy. All together you could get this done for ~$400 while keeping everything factory. When the compartment is open it really doesnt block much of your view. I don't know what the laws are with video being up front, probably illegal. But wouldnt navigation systems that block your view on the dash also be illegal (tom tom etc)? Atleast it would be real easy to close the compartment if it is mounted right ;)

That would be fricken hott. Open that compartment and it slowly makes the screen rise.

I think I saw someone that already had that done. I can't remember.

Make it happen though!

well im definetly going to do it for a road trip im taking in march. The only thing i wont really be able to fabricate myself is the mount. Everything else can be installed with ease. That would be pretty sweet having the monitor slowly rise up when you open the compartment... until then ill just have to make something to keep the monitor to stay upright, and collapse it when i want to close it.

Ofcourse its not for the driver watching or whatever so maybe slight swivel would be pretty cool too. the audio is enough for me when im driving :)
