So my brothers car started acting up. When he'd first start the car, the ABS system feels like it's kicking in constantly, even though the brakes aren't being applied, and the speedometer flings back and forth from 0 mph to 15 mph, as he accelerates, the speedometer still bounces up and down, and the ABS is kicking in, until he hit's 15 mph. At 15 mph, the ABS stops, the speedometer works fine, and the ABS light comes on. We scanned it, and it threw a C1233 "RF Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted." So, we got a new RF speed sensor, and the problem still exists. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Look at the tone ring, the toothed wheel that the wheel sensor reads. Escapes are known for having cracked tone rings, especially in parts of the country that uses salt on the roads in winter.

Some have succeeded in using epoxy over the crack, at least temporarily. If the tone ring is cracked the long term solution is to replace it. At one time you could not buy them individually, and had to replace the CV shaft. Now they can be purchased individually, but some still find it easier to replace the CV shaft since it has to be removed to replace the tone ring.
