I just bought a Charcoal Beige SEL V6, and it came with pretty much everything but the auto lamps (?!?). I want them. The car has the sensor in the dash (because when I unlock the doors at night with the remote, the lights come on, plus I can see the sensor on the dash), so does anyone know if I just change the headlight switch and get the one with the "A" if that will make them work? Ford has been known to do things like this in the past..........

the sensor in the dash???  the auto headlamps sensor is built into the back of your rearveiw mirror.  Almost looks like a small black radar detector up there.

looking to your dash...
Does your headlight switch already have a setting (one to the left of center or off position) that has a lightbulb with an "A" in it?  If it does then you should have no problems what so ever.

I have the auto lamps, however, the headlamps switch will not allow me to turn twice to the left (what looks to be a fog light setting)???
It allows for two positions on the right (running lamps, standard lights).

I too had the same issue with my lights when I first got my fusion and I realized you have to pull the knob out to get the fog lights on.

I just have mine set to A and pulled out, so when the lights come on automatically my headlights and fog lights come on at the same time.

They look awesome with the Luminics Ultra White bulbs (all 6), but they dont cast enough light far enough on the road.

Regardless, they will stay installed, because the look so damn cool...

F Y I the photo cell for the auto lamps is located in the center of the defroster grille. It has two purposes its a auto lamp photo cell and a sun load sensor for the auto temp control if equipped. However, if you have a auto dimming rear view mirror then there is a photo cell on the back of the mirror. But, its used just for the mirror.

Yeah, I traded an '04 Exporer for this car and the foglights were operated the same way, so I already knew how that worked. There is no "A" in my headlight switch, so I have no auto lights.

Sooooo, if I go to the dealer and order the auto lamps version of the healight switch instead of the basic one I have in my car does anyone know if my autolamps will work?

If you have automatic tempature control then the sensor will already be on the dash. If may just require the installation of a switch. However, it may also require a reprograming of the fuse panel also for the auto lamps to work. I will try to look into it for.

People actually use auto-lights? I don't use my headlights until it's dark. They turn on around like, dusk. I remember a topic on here about the "people" that use their fog-lights when it's not foggy. I run with my fog's on during sunset and dusk, then I crank on the headlights.

OK, so back to the original question, does anyone know if just changing the switch will make it work? :D

The switch should probably make it work....but I'm still puzzled as to why it didn't come standard on your car????? The SEL V6's come standard with the AutoLamp function, you might want to ask your dealer.

I will try to find out about that from the dealer.

I am going to go buy the switch and find out if it works. I am thinking it will, we'll see.
