The power rating is probably misleading anyway. Whether it's 290 or 190, it's really just the peak power rating for all the channels. And of course "peak" power lasts for only an instant and doesnt happen very often. The true power rating is most likely closer to 3-5W RMS or continuous for each channel.
As I've heard before "No highs, no lows, it must be Bose". Also, "Bose, higher profits through advertising" instead of "Better sound through research". I've had a lot of cars with Bose systems, and I would give them a B-. If you factor in the extra cost on a new car, I'd lower it to a C. Check out a Bose car speaker sometime- paper cone, small magnet- really poor quality in my book.

As for their home equipment, I wouldn't touch it unless my #1 priority was being able to hide the speakers. And if that's the case, there's plenty of better products out there with small speakers and bass modules like the Bose.
I am familiar with Paradigm as well and they do make good stuff.
My wife's new Hyundai Entourage has the Infinity upgraded stereo with surround sound. Overall a good sounding stereo- but the bass can't match my 12" JL sub :D
