I have an '06 Fusion that I bought, cut, and programmed a VW style key for. It starts the car, but so far I have been unable to program the fob. I turn from 1 to 3 eight times with it in the ignition, leave it in the on position, and press the button on the new fob that I am trying to program, and it does not do anything. The light lights up on the fob to show that the button is being depressed.

Other variations i have tried are pressing the old fob with the new key in the ignition, turning from 1 to 3 eight times with the original key and hitting the button on the new one, pressing and holding the buttons, etc. What am I doing wrong?

I have called and verified that this key should work with my '06 Fusion. They sent me a new fob portion for the key and everything. (It is the second time they sent one with a dead battery though...) On the phone with them they asked if the car goes into programming mode, and it does with the 1-3-1 (x8) sequence. I also tried the other programming mode for the doors turn to pos 3, unlock doors 3 times with door switch, turn to pos 1, and unlock 3 times with the door switch. Both programming modes greet me with a response, however, the fob with a new battery does nothing... I still don't know what I am missing.

I have to set up an appointment with a dealer as there is a possibility that 4 key fobs have already been programmed to the car. That's kind of a bummer as I could really use the extra $ this time of year. I added up all of the money I have spent on this car since I bought it and somehow I am well over $1100 already just in parts.

Also, I drove it for the first time in snow last week, and I have to say I am glad I will be switching from the 17s back to the narrower 16s once I have the opportunity.
what flip key did you get?
So I got it cut for $2.14 at a locksmith. It fits in the lock just fine but when I switch to "run" the car and lock symbol flashes on the dash panel. I'm assuming that's the immobilizer and it won't start (I didn't actually try to crank it over because it's cold here and I don't start my car unless I'm going somewhere.) Advice? EDIT: Aww poo. I have to program the immobilizer. BRB...
What was the model number or part number for this been wanting to do the same

Hi Chris. Yes, the IKT keyfobs must be programmed to the vehicle.

An owner can program keyfobs themself, but you must have two already programmed keyfobs in order to program a third. It is an anti-theft security measure.

If you currently only have one programmed keyfob, you will need a qualified automotive locksmith or a Ford Dealer to program a second, third etc.

Keep us updated and good luck.
