Before I go to the locksmith and have this flip key cut I just want to verify that that's all that needs to be done for it to work. I have programmed the fob portion and it work just fine...now if I read the other threads on this topic correctly, all I have to do is get the key portion cut and we're golden right?

Thanks in advance!

what flip key did you get?
[/quote]

So I got it cut for $2.14 at a locksmith. It fits in the lock just fine but when I switch to "run" the car and lock symbol flashes on the dash panel. I'm assuming that's the immobilizer and it won't start (I didn't actually try to crank it over because it's cold here and I don't start my car unless I'm going somewhere.)

Advice?

EDIT:

Aww poo. I have to program the immobilizer. BRB...

Hi lyonsroar. :wavey: The fact that the fob unlocks the doors does not mean the PATS programming is performed (or even compatible), as they are two different issues. If it unlocks the doors etc. but will not start the car, it is either not programmed correctly/completely, incompatible with the Fusion PATS system or defective.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

nope! It worked. I didn't realize you had to program the PATS separately from the fob. I found the procedure online (I don't have an owners manual) and did it and the thing works!
One of the coolest mods I've done on any of my cars to date!

Off topic a lil: this key is a dead ringer for a VW key. Same design and everything. Kinda wish it had a VW logo on the back just to freak people out..

Hi lyonsroar. :wavey: You can download a pdf version of your Owners Manual from the Ford/Lincoln-Mercury Owners website located here - http://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/IdentifyVehiclePage&BackToLogin=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage&ord=91325628 It comes in very handy. I actually wind up using the pdf version more often than my Owners Manual hard copy.

While you're at it, you may as well also register. Once you register, there are useful and convenient services available.

Good luck.

Yup. That's where I got it from. I really prefer the paper version though. Usually when I first get a car I sit down that night and read the manual and then never touch it again. Sometimes there's interesting tid bits.

Hi lyonsroar. :wavey: Yup, I actually prefer having both. In this way, I can keep my hard copy in my cars glove compartment if I ever need it. And when I need to look something up while online at home or in the office (i.e. for answering questions here) I can use the pdf version. Also, since you stated you don't have an Owners Manual, I assumed a pdf version would at least help a little.

Good luck.

Im looking into getting one of the flip keys. I know there are a few different models. Lyonsroar, how is the quality of this one? Does it feel cheap in your hand? Is it sturdy etc..
Also, how long did it take for it to arrive?
My last question, will it work with a Milan?

I work at a car dealer so when I got it (1 week from purchase date) I took it to work and found a VW flip key to compare. Honestly they are very close. Buttons are nice and crisp, easy to push. The panic button takes a bit more force to push which I believe is done on-purpose so you don't accidentally push it. Slight, and I mean very slight side to side movement of the key when extended which does not worry me one bit. I have no fear of it busting off in the ignition. Very solid piece for $50.

I just traded my 6 for a 2012 Fusion Sport and bought the flip key from the eBay link above. The immobilizer/PATS is working, per the process in the owners manual, but not the remote buttons. What did you do to get the keyless and trunk buttons working?

[EDIT] - It looks like the VW flip-key is not a true IKT. Each portion must be programmed separately. Credit goes to monk72 on mazdaspeeders.com and Google. :)

Step 1 - Program the PATS system using the process in the owner's manual.

Step 2 - Program the remote buttons using the "old"/non-IKT process, as shown below.
