Has anyone added 6x9's in the rear of your Fusion?  I have replaced my head unit and chaned out all the front and rear door speakers with 5x7 Kenwoods, but I want to add some 6x9s in the rear but dont know how to remove the panel so I can cut out the speaker holes.  Any help would be great.  :dunno:

I hope you got my email with the wiring diagrams. Someone else asked a similar question to this in another thread. I posted my personal opinion there and I'll give it again here. From what I've read and been told by "experts", the vast majority of sound you hear comes from your front speakers. The rears serve more for filler or ambient sound. So adding more rear speakers to the rear deck won't dramatically improve your system. You'd be better off adding a sub to get the low end that the factory system doesn't provide. My understanding is the Audiophile stereo adds 2 6x9 subs to the rear- they aren't full range speakers. So my recommendation would be adding a sub in the turnk and not full range 6x9's in the rear.

what if you don't want to waste trunk space ?  Are there any subs for the 6x9 holes ??

There may be some aftermarket 6x9's out there that are designed as subs, but I'm not familiar with them. Creating bass is all about moving a lot of air- and that's why subs are a lot bigger and have an enclosure. I'm not sure how that would sound just hanging from the rear deck. The audiophile system has 6x9 "subs" in the rear deck, but I've not heard it so I don't know how it sounds.

my audiophile system with the 6x9's subs has enough bass for my tastes. They even shake the outside rearview mirrors on occasion. They are only low frequency though am sure they are no where near as good as aftermarket subs in the trunk.

yeah it really depends on what you are looking for with bass. If you like to feel it hit you need a sub. Personally... I had 2 12's in my focus and I have yet to put them in my fusion because im tired of the wasted trunk space. Id rather get 2 6x9's and cut off the highs so i get just the a little bit more lows for some added texture. After that id get some componets for the fronts to make things a little more clear.

Just remember that adding 6x9's versus a sub is no comparsion. If you really want the lows hit you HAVE to go with a sub. It is night and day difference. Imagine a home theater without a sub!

I just went on crutchfield, selected 8 speaker stereo and it says rear deck - 6-1/2" or 5-1/4"... nothing about 6x9's

anyone know more about the rear deck and why everyone says 6x9'x yet crutchfield says somethign else?

Yeah, I have no problem with what's coming out stock. Much better than any stock system I've ever had, and better than most of the things I put in to my cars 10 years ago.

im going to try adding some 6x9s to the rear deck to see what it will sound like. I got a mono amp which is stable @ 2 ohms so i will be able to wire up 2 6x9s easily for the lows. Sort of a waste to not be able to use the tweeters but then again its all about imaging.

I guess its more of an experiment to see what it will sound like instead of using my sub. My current sub is great but id rather have my trunk space. I know there is going to be a huge difference, but it would be a big upgrade from the factory audiophille speakers so i know it will sound better than those. Worst case is that i just return them and hook back up my sub. its worth a try ;)

I added the 6x9's to the rear deck gives me enough bass for my taste. I also switched the rear door speakers to some Kenwood 5x7 two ways and the front doors to 5 1/4 rd. Kenwoods. Much better then stock. FYI I did not cut out the rear deck panel. I may take it off some day to hear what it sounds like if I was to cut out the holes, but for now I am happy!

How did you hook-up the 6X9's. Were they jumped from the rear speakers or did you run new wire? Is there wires already on the rear? I checked and there was no extra wires. Let us know. Thanks.

I jumped them from the rear speakers. I tapped into the wiring in the "B" pillar. I pulled off the bottom trim piece. There is a mollex connector there that feed the rear door for windows, locks speakers ect. I matched the wire colors from the rear door speakers. I then ran the wire down inside the trim, under the door treshold and through the edge of the rear seat. If you need the wire colors let me know I think I wrote them down somewhere. It took me about 1 to 1 1/2 hours for both sides (total). Good Luck!
