We just picked up our fusion yesterday and we have noticed a ticking comming from the passenger side of the engine (3.0L). I was just wondering if this is normal or should I be making a return trip to the dealer for some answers?

I have the 3.0L as yourself and as far as I know, having any sort of ticking comming from your engine bay is anything BUT normal.... a quick trip to the dealer is definately suggested :))~

Good Luck.

its all subjective, a tick for you may be a knock for me. most moden engines with plastic plenums and intake manifolds will have a noticeable ticking noise from the injectors firing. if you are concerned, by all means take it back to the dealership, that is what the warranty is for.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to check and see if anyone else had that problem. I will go ahead and let the service dept look at it and give us an answer.

Another quick point.......it only seems to do it when the engine is warm????

also both engines have timing chains & they make the noise as well, and are located at the front of the engine,
which on FWD is the Passenger side.

Just thought you would like to know that there is a TSB about a cam tick noise. TSB 06-11-8. It affects all 3.0s. I have only to do two in the past few years. Basicaly you retorque the cam that drives the water pump. It works. Check into it. Hope this helps

Some 2005-2006 Five Hundred, Freestyle, Montego and 2006 Fusion, Milan, Zephyr, and 2006 Escape and Mariner vehicles built 1/17/2006 and later equipped with the 3.0L 4V Duratec engine with exhaust camshaft driven water pumps may exhibit a ticking noise from the left bank cylinder head with the engine at normal operating temperature.

in an update, i took the fusion to the dealer and the techs basically told me that it was normal and it was the injectors making the noise.  I guess I will keep an eye on it for any changes.......... :bash:

that's what I thought to, along with the timing chain noises, I have heard both before on prior cars that I owned.
my Buick Century had a TBI, and you could hear it ticking as is sprayed the fuel.

How loud is the noise? Does it sound like a light engine tap even with the hood closed? If you hear a tap with the hood closed I would request they do this tsb. Atleast for piece of mind. And if that doesnt change anything then I would say its probably normal. Or at least compare it to another Fusion on the dealers lot. The concern I have is that it only does it when its warm. Injector noise doesnt change with tempature.

The noise is light but still noticeable with the hood closed and windows down.  However we have bigger problems now.  My wife was driving it today and it began to miss violently and was hard to drive. But lucky us she was only a mile from the dealership.  So now it is in their hands to fix it.   :bash:

wow man, sorry. damn wonder what it could be?
I hope they're able to remedy it easily. maybe it's nothing major
could be a faulty coil pack or two.

maybe there's a short somewhere in the fusebox or in the ignition system, it's happened on other
cars, I know of and it affects the electronics of the injectors and, possibly could short your coils out.

my old Buick with a TBI, had a similar expirience, the coil kept being shorted by a fault in the fuse block.
which led to the injector misfiring & timing being off as well. and it missed pretty bad along with everything
else, I had to put it in neutral & keep my foot on the gas everytime I had to stop to keep it from stalling out.

it too being fuel injected ticked loud while this was happening. could be as simple as a bad relay somewhere
that they missed, anything is possible on any of these new cars.

This is exactly the problem with my Fusion. It goes back to the dealer on Tuesday to get fixed. I guess they didn't have the right torque wrench. We'll see what happens after it's fixed. *keeps fingers crossed*
