Anyone running 215/55/17 tires?

I am current shopping for winter rubber and it seems that there is a better selection in 215/55/17 and a much better price.

Just wondering if anyone is running them on the stock wheels and have plenty of clearance.

Isn't that slimmer than stock? Doesn't the 17's come with 225 from the factory? If 215/55/17 keeps the diameter the same as stock I don't see why that would not be fine.. I have also heard that skinnier winter tires are better so I would go for that.

Yeah, that is slimmer than stock, but just a tad taller.

Stock size is 225/50/17. Tire rack says 215/50/17 would work as an alternate. They don't list 215/55/17 as an alternate though, so I wanted to see if anyone else has ran that size without any issues.

Ohh I didn't catch that it is taller than stock.. it will be just under an inch taller (in diameter), and your speedometer will be off by about 2 mph with this tire.. Clearance should be fine (I would assume) but that is just a guess. Are you at stock ride height? I am lowered 2.5 inches up front and have no clearance issues, so the only thing that might be a problem would be the upper control arm, but it seems there would be enough room. Don't go by my advice, as this is just an assumption but my guess would be that it could work, however 215/50/17 would be a better choice.

I'm running 215/55/17 Nokian Hakkapaliitas for winter and no problems.

Thanks for the reply.

I decided to just go with 215/50/17. Tirerack has the Blizzak WS-60's on closeout for $115.

I know this is a post from long ago but I’ve blown a tire and I have a 215/50/r15 when my Taurus takes 215/60/r16 .... am I okay to use that one? I don’t know much about cars but I think that’s what I’ve gathered from this post.

Hi Bkj. No. Sizes can not be mixed. All 4 tires need to be the same size on your vehicle.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
